Are cycle paths not generally gritted @SustransNorth @OfficialTfGM ? The Fallowfield Loop in Manchester, a popular cycling route, was treacherous this morning. I saw one guy who'd had a nasty fall on the ice by Sainsbury's and was waiting for an ambulance - not good.

My somewhat cynical take on bullies in academia is that they’re a feature, not a bug. I touched on this with an earlier tweet, but the qualities we commonly associate with “top scientist” in academia are extremely present in the kinds of people who bully others.

(2/2) I’ve not led a rapid JWST paper, and spending my time clearing up the mess of those who have would make it harder for me to publish full stop. I operate a 1 in 1 out policy for articles, so I’m now saying no.

I’ve had 3 requests to referee papers since JWST data dropped. A hidden cost of all these early look papers written in the space of weeks. With the long author lists on a lot of these works it must be hard to find referees (1/2)
