And splashdown!
America is back in the business of sending astronauts to the Moon and bringing them home safely.
Reid, Victor, Christina, and Jeremy did an outstanding job. These talented astronauts inspired the world and represented their space agencies and nations as humanity’s ambassadors to the stars.
This was a test mission, the first crewed flight of SLS and Orion, pushing farther into the unforgiving environment of space than ever before, and it carried real risk. They accepted that risk for all we stood to learn and for the exciting missions that follow, as we return to the lunar surface, build a Moon base, and prepare for what comes next.
And they were not alone. The entire NASA workforce, our commercial and international partners, and the hopes and dreams of people all over the world were with them. The astronauts know it, and you should too. This mission would not have been possible without you.
Congratulations. Artemis II, mission accomplished.
Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that, in glory and triumph, they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot - Carl Sagan
@AJamesMcCarthy I was trying to clean this up myself so I could put it on my wall, but I didn't have the skills. I would kill for your take on the RAW.
HUMANITY RETURNS TO THE LUNAR SPHERE OF INFLUENCE
53 years, 3 months, 19 days, 12 hours, and 26 minutes since Apollo 17 departed, Artemis II has arrived in the SOI of our celestial companion.
WE'RE SO BACK!

@knosalit So excited to follow @Astro_Christina on this mission! FYI she is in the VR documentary Space Explorers, you can see her working in the ISS right in front of you!
@KristinFisher@NASAAdmin How is Jared feeling about crew risk for this mission as Admin compared to Polaris Dawn as commander? How do you minimize risk with so many more moving parts?
It's really happening! I'm so stoked and nervous that I'm struggling to process. In some ways, it feels like my whole life has been building to tomorrow.

It's exciting to hear NASA talking about their future on the moon, but watching this flickering on the video stream makes me long for a NASA future without interlaced video.
NASA’s about to send astronauts to the Moon for the first time since 1972. Most people have no idea.
I’m the daughter of two NASA astronauts, and even I took space for granted. This is the story of how I woke up - and why I’m creating a completely different way to experience Artemis II.
