@ParkBoard To all criticizing VPB on this one: You are WRONG. It is the City of Vancouver that decides to fund ALL infrastructure maintenance in this city. City of Vancouver has FAILED in the upkeep of all its infrastructure for decades, not Park Board. They do not control spending.

@wrychrd @bobmackin Fully agree. However, wish there had been some mention of future transit hub expansion. Current one seabus route will not be sufficient for the load of new residents. This hub MUST be expanded now. Where was Translink in the announcement?

@Neufy123 @iamkennethchan Not really. Just need more - much more -and better transit on the entire north shore. More seabus service (to other muni's as well), a light rail system as well as MUCH more bus service. Then no car needed. The current seabus will not be enough for thousands more there.

@iamkennethchan The criticism is quick and fast. Let's see what the plan is before jumping on it. The land should be carefully considered and preserved for a future expanded transportation hub as well - more seabus service (to Port Moody/Kits etc.) as well as a possible light rail hub.

@martynschmoll @TranBC Agreed. Perhaps time to phone the MLA & Minister or go to media. Fence was always more for optics after the fatality some years back. It only prevents riders from falling into traffic, and even that is negligible. A much superior barricade should have been installed.

@martynschmoll @TranBC It's all budgeting for MoTI. The fence repair is not daily operations, it's additional work they have to contract for and it's all about their budgets when they have $$ to schedule it Presume this time, they have been putting it off to repair all at once.

@TranBC @martynschmoll Thank you! I had a conversation with Miller-Cap - great company & staff - and they explained this was the longest they had seen your ministry leave that fence - with SO many broken sections now. Appreciate your reply. Let's hope repairs are organized soon.

@martynschmoll @TranBC I called Miller Capilano (hwy maintenance contractor) a month+ ago. They can only repair it when BC Min of Hwys directs them. She said they have to get budget for the work before that happens. It is DEFINITELY under BC Min of Hwys purview. Agreed tho - needs repair now pronto.

@flexi_time @joewilliams @AlecStapp Yes, I have a friend from the UK, living in Vancouver the past 2 yrs, and he has filled me in on how bad it is in England as well, all the cuts to train service there in the past 10 or 20 yrs. You're right - I am referring to the continent when I speak of Europe.

@joewilliams @AlecStapp Canada and the US. Every other country/ continent in the world is pulling ahead on the public transit/ high speed rail front. These 2 countries are still fully in bed with the auto industry and its pals - oil & gas.

@CathygPersonal @hubick @MrsSteak @CityofVancouver For some bizarre reason-neither the media nor the police ever give additional vital information on cars running into & killing/maiming pedestrians & cyclists. There is resistance to this. They both do a great disservice to the public prohibiting this information. We need to know.

@vancolour @DailyHiveVan Sad...but inevitable and the reality, since pedestrians & cyclists are continually faced with 1T+ of steel with menacing, speeding, angry & impatient car drivers behind the wheel in Metro Van now. Bring on more public transit -light rail, high speed rail, & buses - only solution.

@Boenau Car brain. Definitely car brain. Close to 100 odd years of it. Time to deprogram and get our North American cities back to more livable states, putting cars at the very bottom of priority and public transit and active transportation to the very top! And this is NOT it.

Like housing - the federal gov't has been MIA for 30 years or more on this front. And the country shows it.

Canada is becoming a transportation backwoods. We need high speed rail in high pop. hubs, and much, much more federal funding of public transit for all Cdn cities.

Arbutus corridor should be converted to a light rail route all the way to Steveston/Tsawwasen and many other areas. Instead we have a multibillion $ skytrain to ..Arbutus? This was a priority?
