Our Stage 1 structure is now shipped, delivered, and ready for testing in Moses Lake, WA. Standing in its full vertical orientation, this flight hardware will be thoroughly vetted before returning to Kent for some final touches before the journey to Cape Canaveral, FL begins.
Suction testing is one of the most exciting phases of any engine development program since we intentionally drive the pumps to the onset of cavitation. It’s important to know where that limit is, but cavitation can very quickly lead to RUD. Happy to report awesome results with better than expected margin, including this test which drove the engine all over the operating box. Go team – huge respect!
We’re targeting a launch window that opens on Dec. 18 for our next New Shepard payload mission. #NS24 will carry 33 science and research payloads as well as 38,000 @clubforfuture postcards to space. #FortheBenefitofEarth
Our Miranda dev engine is officially on the test stand. This hardworking team has worked diligently to achieve this milestone and is making the final preparations for the first hot fire.
Once qualified, 7 Miranda engines - capable of producing 1.6 million pounds of thrust - will power the first stage of Antares 330 and the medium launch vehicle we're co-developing with @northropgrumman.
Stay tuned as we get ready to light this engine up!
⚡️ Pilot on board ⚡️
Big news: we've expanded our flight test campaign to include flying with a pilot on board.
Four Joby pilots have now flown our aircraft from the cockpit, marking a key step towards commercial operations.

Here’s the static fire video! This all-up test was really a hop mission simulation and included everything from flight avionics, power systems, computers, GNC, RCS, tank pressurization, and, of course, the engine and heat shield. The only thing we simulated was the position data, which was derived in real time from engine data. Simulating the position gave us the opportunity to inject dispersions, such as a persistent roll, which you can see the badass RCS fighting hard to correct. Huge success across the board!
