Nearly 18 months after the signing of the #CoHA between #Tigray & Ethiopian govt in Pretoria, the foreign Eritrean forces that were supposed to be withdrawn from all of Tigray as per the agreement remain in Tigray & continue to perpetrate war crimes, crimes against humanity & genocide.

With the recent reports of the Ethiopian National Defense Forces #ENDF units that were stationed in areas close to the occupied territories withdrawing, the security threats & possibility of re-invasion by Eritrean forces is now high & sending shockwaves to the communities.

Particularly at risk are Tigray’s #Irob & the #Kunama indigenous minorities that reside in the areas that have been under the violent occupation by the genocidal Eritrean forces since Nov 2020. They are facing an existential threat.

Ethiopia & Eritrea using the repeatedly violated Algiers Agreement of 2000 & the subsequently invalidated 2002 EEBC decision as an excuse after a full-scale invasion & genocide in Tigray is unacceptable. It’s also past due time for Ethiopia & Eritrea to acknowledge that the border commission’s decision violated applicable international laws that protect indigenous minority people. After all, the Algiers Agreement was never meant to be implemented by force through violence.

We call for the verified withdrawal of Eritrean forces from all of #Tigray restoring pre-war borders, immediate unfettered humanitarian access, justice for crimes committed by all forces, incl. Eritrean troops & a resolution to the border dispute engaging affected border communities + in compliance with the international laws to protect & promote indigenous minority people.
