Retired from NHS, slightly woke whatever that is
Married, live in W Wales, Bristol City supporter , love the countryside ,and our 4 rescue dogs, life is good x
Met a mate for a drink in Sadiq Khan's London last night. My phone got nicked twice and we had to go to six pubs before we found one where the barstaff spoke English. Then I got murdered on the way home.
This is extraordinarily stupid and would instantly block the transit of European goods - which includes much of the UK's food supply - across the English Channel. Massively increased shipping costs would be the least of the problems caused by this witless aping of Trump's policy.
Let me just stop you right there Robert Jenrick
It took me 38 hours on the large fast ferry from Cadiz to Fuerteventura off the north west coast of Africa next to Morocco
If migrants have rowed from bordering Ceuta to Essex in under 4 days then sign them up for the boat race
@reformparty_uk 1/ The disingenuous Jenrick standing and lying through his teeth about the funding of social care and the complexity of the issue. Jenrick who helped a tory donor avoid £45m in tax !
Jenrick and Reform infantilising the debate and their followers again
Strangely, this story doesn't mention the 1,077 small boat arrivals in Liz Truss's first week as PM, or the 1,800 in Rishi Sunak's. It also says that there were only 35 arrivals in Boris Johnson's first week as PM in 2019, but omits to mention the 2,532 in his final week in 2022.
“You OK, Major?”
“Touch of the Dubai Dick, Fawlty.”
“Sounds terrible. Is it bacterial?”
“No Fawlty, I’m being investigated by the Met Police for a dodgy donation.”
1. The claim: he "manipulated the system"
There's no evidence of manipulation. The move followed clinical psychologists concluding he could not be safely managed in a prison environment, a judgment that came after he allegedly attacked a prison officer with boiling water from a kettle in his cell at Belmarsh in May.
Under the Mental Health Act, officials acting for the Justice Secretary have no discretion to override qualified clinical advice on transfers like this: they're legally required to accept it. That's a statutory process, not a loophole he exploited.
2. The claim implies this is a lighter or more comfortable outcome
Broadmoor is England's oldest high-security psychiatric hospital, holding some of the country's most dangerous offenders historically, including Peter Sutcliffe and Ronnie Kray.
It is not a step down in security: it's a different regime built around psychiatric treatment rather than punishment, but with equivalent physical security. Being labelled a "patient" there doesn't mean lighter conditions.
3. On his sentence
The transfer does not change his sentence. He was jailed for life with a minimum term of 52 years, and the Ministry of Justice has explicitly confirmed the sentence stands unchanged: he'll serve every day of it regardless of which secure institution holds him.
4. On the "fit to stand trial" point
Being assessed fit to stand trial in January 2025 and being later assessed as unmanageable in a prison setting aren't contradictory.
Fitness to plead concerns whether someone can understand and participate in a trial; it's a different clinical question from whether their behaviour or mental state can be safely contained in an ordinary prison years later, especially after a violent incident.
5. Cost point often raised alongside this story
It's true that secure hospital placements are considerably more expensive per year than a standard prison place. Figures cited in reporting range around £270,000-£300,000 versus roughly £60,000-£98,000. That's a genuine policy discussion point, but it's a resourcing question, not evidence of manipulation.
Reform are not a serious political party, and its shameless manipulative politicians and other senior figures are not trustworthy.
Unfortunately, millions of gullible citizens are taken in by their lies, disinformation, and constant stream of misleading billionaire-funded propaganda, which is frequently amplified by billionaire-funded media outlets and often by suspicious anonymous @X accounts.
