We're working w/@flatironhealth to introduce a novel capability for supporting CDx filings using real-world data from the Flatiron Health-Foundation Medicine Clinico-Genomic Database (CGDB) as supportive clinical evidence for regulatory filings for precision oncology CDxs.
Final tally on Lillard trade: Portland gets Deandre Ayton, Robert Williams, Malcolm Brogdon, Toumani Camara, three first-round picks 2024 (Golden State, Top-4 protected), 2029 (Bucks and Celtics unprotected) and 2028 and 2030 Milwaukee pick swaps.
Thanks to @TheEviBase for hosting this important conversation on the potential for fit for purpose RWE in supporting companion diagnostics approvals
And thanks to many colleagues at @FoundationATCG in informing our perspective here!
After waiting weeks for a treatment plan, I started today on Alecensa (alectinib), which is a targeted therapy for "ALK positive" lung cancer.
I lucked out that biomarker testing came back positive for a rare mutation for which there are some extremely effective drugs available. That mutation is almost certainly what caused my cancer in the first place.
For now, at least, that means no chemotherapy. I'll just be taking a bunch of pills several times a day.
According to my oncologist, this drug starts working within a day or two and literally melts the cancer away. That's good because the PET scan I got last week showed the cancer was in more places than initially thought.
The drug works for an average of two years for patients, but some get years more from it. There are a few other options to try when it stops working, which eventually will happen.
About 50% of ALK positive patients live to seven years after diagnosis. That's a hell of a lot better than the 7% chance of making it to five years that I was initially given, with the likelihood that my horizon could be significantly shorter based on the advanced nature of my disease.
In short, my timeline likely just got extended from weeks or months to possibly years. Hopefully, those will be good quality years that will give me the chance to see my kids grow up and be part of their lives. I'm beyond thankful for that opportunity.
