Almost an yr before the PNAS paper, researchers at Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) in Mangalore & the National Centre for Cell Science (NCCS) in Pune published a critical precursor.
They used 16S rRNA sequencing to prove that patients with different stone types (Calcium Oxalate vs. Uric Acid) have vastly different Urinary Microbiome (UMB) profiles.
They identified that Pseudomonas & Dongia bacteria are significantly elevated in calcium oxalate stone formers. This Indian study was among the 1st to map the specific microbial gangs responsible for different mineral types.

Super elated to share our preprint on a new #PlacentaOnChip model that is 1) Scalable, 2) Microfluidics-free & 3) High-throughput capable
Proud of the hard work by @anshulbhide1 and Sourav. Great collaboration with @abhijit_MLab@iitbombay

Dear @narendramodi. The @ugc_india Equity Regulations are unjust and must be revised:
1 Caste discrimination victim definition excludes general category
2 Equity committee composition excludes mention of general category
3 There is no provision for punishing false complaints
The role of a PhD supervisor is to provide a period of training that can lead to diverse career paths - the choice of which lies with the PhD aspirant.
Not foster a lineage of students who forever feel 'less' for not wanting to or getting into academia. 🧪
📢 JRF Opportunity @NIMHANS_BLR For Aspiring PhD Students (CCRH-funded project). An excellent opportunity for those planning to pursue a PhD & activate CSIR/UGC/DBT-BET?DST-Inspire fellowship. Few months as a project JRF helps you gain hands-on experimental skills 1/3
If PhD students have time to unwind and relax, they will get more creative ideas about their projects, which is much needed. If they are made to work like robots, generating data but not thinking, it is a disservice to them and the project.
A phenomenal talk by Dr Pragya Yadav @icmr_niv on role of genomics in preparedness for pandemics in India. Thank you @hellopragya22 for coming to the SBCI Mumbai chapter and GATC meeting 2024 at @icmrnirrch
A phenomenal talk by Prof Richa Reikhy @IISERPune on mitochondrial dynamics and gastrulation at the SBC(I) Mumbai Chapter & GATC West Meeting on 'Genes Genetics & Genomics'.

1/n This discussion on 37K is good or bad; phd is internship or job just seems to have forgotten few minor details:
1) students are no longer making long queue for Indian Phd/MS.
2) world is truly globalized & no one give a damn of PPP before choosing real USD/Euro
Chemistry, physics and mathematics dictate every aspect of the physical world around us from the way our neurons work to the way stars and planets form. We should build AI’s that augment and amplify our understanding of these the three subjects.
