I'm still shaking my head at the wording of this tweet.
"Wherever you are, this Sunday at 3pm you're getting the Emergency Alert".

Let's unpack it a little.
Firstly, the presumptuousness of it. How does the government know what I'll be doing at 3pm on Sunday? How does it know if I carry a mobile phone? How does it know if it will be switched on? How does it know I haven't already disabled alerts? How does it know I'll not be doing something where a mobile phone interruption might cause a dangerous incident, a car accident?

Secondly, the authoritarian tone. "You will". Not "we will be sending you". "You will". Who do they think they are? Who do they think they're talking to? Small animals or children? Prisoners? Criminals?

And thirdly, and this reminds me of the farce that was the NHS Test and Trace application. Not everyone has a mobile phone. Not everyone carries one everywhere. Not everyone has a bang up to date model. Especially the elderly - the people most likely to need actual help in an emergency. Many people have a phone but keep it switched off unless THEY decide there's an emergency.

Do the people in Number 10 who designed this emergency alert system have any idea about human factors in system design? Especially for a safety system, and one targeted at the entire population, you design it for the lowest common denominator in technology terms. The NHS apps would only run on the latest iPhone and android versions. Leaving many people excluded. In the event of a genuine emergency this alert system won't reach lots of people. The government will need some other way of contacting them. Why not use that method for everyone? Another example of government not having a clue about technology because they're all Oxbridge PPE ex-SpAds.

And finally. Is there a need for this system at all? In Britain we are fortunate to not suffer sudden extreme natural events like tornadoes or earthquakes or volcanoes. Active shooter situations are mercifully rare. There are few situations which would require a genuinely immediate communication to the whole country. And if one was needed, we have television and radio.

So there is an inevitable suspicion, given the massive Project Fear that we have just lived through thanks to the government's own behavioural psychologists in their SPI-B team, that this is just an attempt to keep the level of public alarm at the heights it reached as a result of the overreaction to SARS-COV-2. And encourage everyone to become even more dependent on technology and dependent on the State.
