@withnickberry@rcbregman Each chart is reporting anomalies. An anomaly is the deviation from an average over a specific reference period (typically ~30 years in climate studies). Since it's such a big reference window, the anomalies don't change much by shifting a few years forward or back.
🚨 UPDATE: 1 km tall bubble flares found!

The #NEPDEP team has arrived at the cold seeps much earlier than expected & we are happy to share the view from the ship is 🌈SPEC-freak'n-TACULAR🌈 !
😍😍😍
@hellyeahcorks@TobiasHigbie The situation at UCSD has changed dramatically since I was there 8+ yrs ago. neither grad partner nor I needed loans, we paid rent that was ~35-40% of income. Spiking COL means that is not possible for current grads, largely brought on by huge 2021 increase in UCSD housing rates
Please retweet: This is an important petition to Canadian House of Commons to consider signing re: deep-sea mining. See details here: https://t.co/pgwPKY0llJ
Year 15 in Saanich. Another ROV cruise participating from my smartphone and 5 time zones away. Thanks @bengrupe, @ArcherEcology, Janelle Curtis, and the Phantom ROV team for stepping up this year!
Moms at sea! These mom-scientists spent this #MothersDay conducting important work surveying corals, sponges and rockfish habitat on the #BCDeepCoast2019 expedition. We can't thank them enough for their dedication! https://t.co/uk2iLMcP67 #ScienceAtSea
Wonderfully descriptive article by @jj_marlow on whale falls, and how scientists study biological communities that feast on enormous carcasses after they sink https://t.co/fICyy73j0K
The PR chasing instead of listening to sound science and valid critiques is really breathtaking. Imagine if the millions going to this failing project that hasn't bothered to listen to sound advice was channeled into proven solutions that don't harm the ocean more than they help?
The success of the @UN Decade of Ocean Science will depend on the contributions of many partners. All our thanks to Canada🇨🇦 who has announced $9.5 million in funding to advance activities of the #OceanDecade! @FishOceansCAN

🐙CEPHALOPOD ALERT🐙We observed 1000+ deep sea octopus (Muusoctopus robustus) exploring #DavidsonSeamount@MBNMS. Never before seen in such massive aggregations, females were brooding eggs near shimmering fluid seeps--previously unknown to occur in this region! #NautilusinMBNMS
Great insight by @DrAndrewThale on research effort bias, showing that we study and protect northern vents, but the mining leases are mostly in the south #DSBS2018
Beyond the 'virtual reality' side of 3D reefs, there is incredible scientific potential. When we color the reef by taxonomy, we can find new spatial patterns across the reefscape. Turning coral species 'on' and 'off' is fascinating and beautiful. #100IC@Scripps_Ocean@QI_UCSD
ICYMI catch up on the highlights of the last week onboard CCGS Vector, including today's visit by @DLeBlancNB & @terrybeech⚡️ Central Coast of BC Expedition: https://t.co/CqjSd99dYA #BCDeepCoast2018#knowtheocean
