@Srirachachau I used to train public school teachers in Texas. I met a room full of them who said they never watched it because it was disrespectful. One of them was certain her adult son had never seen it because she had forbidden it. This was like 5 years ago.
@MorePerfectUS All those CEOs should maybe think about what historically happens when a society has large numbers of unemployed young men hanging around.
Stop replacing your lawn with clover. There's a better option.
White clover, the plant lawn-replacement Instagram has been pushing for years, was brought here from Europe.
It's better than turfgrass, but it's not feeding much in the native food web.
Frogfruit is.
Phyla nodiflora is a native ground cover that runs from Alabama to California, Florida to Oregon. It grows low, spreads fast, tolerates foot traffic, blooms from spring through fall, and needs almost no water once established.
It also happens to be the host plant for at least six butterfly species, including the Common Buckeye, Phaon Crescent, White Peacock, Mangrove Buckeye, Tropical Buckeye, and Gorgone Checkerspot.
The name is a misheard "fog fruit," a medieval English term for low plants that took over recently-hayed fields. Somewhere along the way the F became an R. No frogs were ever involved.
Most native plant nurseries carry it. It costs the same as the non-native alternatives. It performs better in your climate. It actually feeds the caterpillars that become the butterflies you're trying to attract.
