@JamesMelville Sorry, I meant to have explained the reason for me banging on about the history of the K6 like that was to agree that yes, they do seem to capture a bygone age, but in reality, they were only actually part of the rural scene for about 50 years!
Whatever, still a great photo! 👍
@JamesMelville That's a 'K6' aka the 'Jubilee Kiosk,' designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott in 1936 as part of George V's Silver Jubilee celebrations. Originally rolled out to every town or village with a Post Office. A 2nd rollout in 1937 offered one to any local authority willing to pay for it
@CJCHowarth@NicholasOShaug1 Formal personal union only after 1542. Lords of Ireland till then.
1st Lord of Ireland (1177) was John Lackland, 5th son of Henry II. When he became Bad King John in 1199, almost by accident: so came personal union also.
Henry VIII 1st King of Ireland (Crown of Ireland Act 1542)
@RonStarIdaho@Science_TechTV He didn't explain it either. He defined it. Famously wrote that no-one could seriously believe that one object could act upon another across a vacuum: "Assume g exists with these properties. Then we should see planets following elliptical orbits. Just don't ask me what g _is_"
@Blazethecurious "In a landmark 1946 case (United States v. Causby), the U.S. Supreme Court officially struck down the ancient rule, declaring that the air is a "public highway.""
@JenKteach It always makes me smile to think that George Formby began his stage career as a George Formby impersonator!
Formby senior was still a recognisable figure in the public mind even as late as 1943 (clip is from "Variety Jubilee").
