Question for founders & marketing folks: Can brands still rely on the same tactics and strategies that worked in the past, or do changing times demand new strategies?
Here's the context: Our AUM share is growing (people with more money trust us), but our demat share is shrinking (fewer new accounts).
The people with money are sticking with us, but many others aren't opening accounts with us 😬. Most likely, the newer and younger, and people from tier 2 and 3 towns, are probably investing elsewhere.
The challenge is that once people pick a platform, they rarely switch. And we have constraints that our competitors don't:
We won't advertise.
We won't offer account-opening incentives.
Broking is cyclical by nature
So, how do you grow when you can't play the traditional acquisition game? The obvious answer may be "content," and we have significantly improved on it, but it's hard to measure the impact.
If you were in our shoes, what would you do?
A few months ago, Blinkit Ambulances started quietly in Gurugram with just 5 ambulances and a dream. What if emergency help could reach you in 10 minutes, just like groceries?
This is one of the hardest and the most resource intensive challenges we have ever taken up. But we are not backing down.
We started with 5 ambulances at the beginning of the year in Gurugram and currently, we have 12. From serving a small area around Golf Course Road, we have now extended the service to cover almost half of Gurugram.
Until today, we have responded to 594 calls, 50% of these critical emergencies. Today, our 12 ambulances across 6 depots reach patients within 10 minutes, 83% of the time.
But numbers only tell part of the story.
Behind every number, every case, is a human being and their family. Moments of fear and hope, desperation and relief.
We discovered how hesitant people still are to call an ambulance, even in critical moments. Many prefer personal cars or cabs, afraid help won’t arrive on time.
We learned how difficult it is to find and train paramedics who can deliver not just medical aid, but empathy when it matters most. Our team is now building an in-house paramedic training program to raise the bar of emergency care in India.
Blinkit Ambulances isn’t just a project. It’s a responsibility we carry close to our hearts. It’s tough, it’s emotional, and it’s still Day 1.
We’re learning. We’re committed. And we won’t stop until every single person trusts that life-saving help is only 10 minutes away.
Has Blinkit Ambulances helped you, or your near and dear ones? We would love to hear your story – will serve as fuel for us and the Ambulances team to keep going.

i miss the old facebook.
not because i'm nostalgic for 2008, but because it solved a problem we're desperately trying to solve again: authentic human connection at scale.
the original facebook was brutally simple. chronological feed. posts from people you actually knew. no algorithm deciding what you should see. no bots. no brands unless your friends worked there.
you'd log in and see that sarah got engaged, mike started a new job, and jenny posted photos from her weekend trip. real updates from real people you actually cared about.
the network effects were insane because the value came from your actual relationships, not from parasocial ones with influencers or ai-generated content.
compare that to something like IG. your feed is 80% content from people you don't know, ads disguised as posts, and increasingly sophisticated bots that are getting harder to detect.
balaji is right - a social network with zero bots would be incredibly valuable right now.
imagine a platform where:
- every account is verified as a real human
- you only see content from people in your actual network
- chronological timeline, no algorithmic manipulation
- no brands, no influencers, no bots
- just real people sharing real moments
the irony is that as AI gets better at creating content, human-created content becomes more valuable. as bots get more sophisticated, bot-free spaces become premium.
we're going to see a massive market for "verified human" social networks. platforms that prove everyone is real, eliminate algorithmic manipulation, and focus on actual social connections.
the old facebook ui was a different philosophy. it treated social media as a utility for staying connected with people you knew, not an entertainment platform optimized for engagement.
that philosophy would absolutely thrive today. people are exhausted by algorithmic feeds full of rage bait and bot content. they want to see updates from friends again.
maybe X has a friend-like feed now that nikita is there. but twitter never is in the news category of apps for a reason, it's about news/ideas, not friends.
my take...
someone's going to build "facebook circa 2008" with 2025 technology and make billions. verified humans only, chronological feeds, network-based discovery.
the future of social media might actually be its past.
Great article.
As a satisfied customer of Vahaan- @bhoushan’s brainchild, I couldn’t recommend Vahaan more.
I have used Vahaan Kolhapuri chappals in the summers of London! They are top notch, you can order them online.
Kolhapuri Chappal is not just footwear, it's our identity. 🇮🇳
My article in #Lokmat is a call to action—for respect, recognition, and revival of our heritage.

Many people asked me about Jio-BlackRock getting a stockbroking license. Firstly, this is great news. The biggest issue for the Indian markets is a lack of breadth in participation. We're largely limited to the top 10 crore Indians.
If anyone can expand the markets beyond the top 10 crore Indians, it's probably Jio with all its distribution might. As for how many new Indian investors have the money to invest in the market, I don't know.
How do we think about broking?
We are not chasing vanity metrics. The idea is to stay profitable and, more importantly, ensure that we stick to the principles and philosophies that have gotten us this far. At the heart of our philosophy is to always do the right thing for customers.
This means not pushing customers to trade and ensuring there are no unnecessary notifications, dark patterns, etc.
We understand that in the long term, the odds of success are better if customers trade less; most of our product decisions are based on this.
We're not interested in acquiring customers using one plan and changing the pricing later.
And more...
So yeah, we are in no hurry. We are in it for the long haul and are always working to ensure we have the best product offerings that help our customers grow with us. I don't know if you can say the same about many other financial services businesses in the industry, who are constantly looking to grow at any cost.
And yeah, I still feel our real competition is going to be more from first-generation founders who are running, breathing, and always thinking about broking. I somehow don't feel it is really going to be from incumbents. This is not a business where having deep pockets means you have a large moat.
But yeah, I might be wrong. 😬
