Together, we are calling for faster registration of community lands and full implementation of the Community Land Act to unlock sustainable development, strengthen livelihoods, and secure the future of communities.

Over 100 pastoralist women and allies from 40+ countries are in Kathmandu for the Global Gathering of Pastoralist Women — "Mera+16."

In 2010, the first Global Gathering in Mera, Gujarat, India produced the Mera Declaration: a landmark agenda articulating the rights and demands of pastoralist women worldwide.
Sixteen years on, women leaders from across Africa, Asia, the Americas, Europe, and Oceania are here to renew that agenda — in the face of accelerating climate change, land fragmentation, and social marginalisation.

Last week,@DLCI_Kenya , together with partners @NLC_Kenya , @acted_kenya and the Ministry of Lands conducted community land registration sensitization meetings in Lorengippi, Nakurio, and Loduat in Lokiriama/Lorengippi Ward, Turkana County.

Community members were taken through:
· The community land registration process
· The importance of forming the Community Land Management Committee
· The role of community institutions in land governance
· The benefits of land registration, including conflict reduction, land use planning, and community decision-making
· The importance of inclusive leadership with representation of women and youth

This process is part of a broader effort to strengthen community land governance and reduce land-related conflicts in the Turkana–West Pokot border areas.

Community land registration is not just about land ownership; it is about governance, identity, planning, and the future of pastoralist communities.
