Another amazing @SASQUA1 meeting finished: the best of SA quaternary science, awesome colleagues and some amazing fieldtrips to Cango Caves and @justin_pargeter 's incredible Boomplaas excavation #SASQUAXXIV
It’s official: Congress has passed the Inflation Reduction Act! This is a huge victory for the American people: bringing down health care and energy costs, tackling the climate crisis, and cracking down on wealthy tax cheats and freeloading corporations. Woo-hoo!
*when the villain in the movie has a PhD*
Viewers without a PhD: Ah, they are just saying he’s a smart villain. Makes sense.
Viewers with a PhD: Ah, grad school and academia drove him to madness. Makes sense.
By age 30 everyone should have that one friend who can ID the bird you saw from the most terrible description while still being delighted to share their knowledge and experience.
Revisiting @MichaelESmith's chapter in Teotihuacan: The World Beyond the City for the paper @sherdfield and I are working on and noticed for the first time.. hey!
I really wish the world would let go of the myth that truly talented, visionary, passionate people are all 24/7 laser-focused on their work to the detriment of every other aspect of life and their physical and mental well-being.
It's interesting to break down university endowments by how many freshman they accept per year. Harvard accepts 2000 freshmen per year and their endowment is $39 billion. So...$19,500,000 per freshman accepted.
For comparison, ASU's endowment is $12,500 per freshman accepted.
"Get back to the science"
Sir I would LOVE to. I would love nothing more than to continue writing books, making science content, and to stop marinating on this existential dread that my country considers me less of a human bc of my uterus.
BREAKING NEWS (CNN, on-air): House January 6 Committee “Concerned” Trump May Be Using the Hundreds of Millions He Raised to Overturn the Election to Pay for Lawyers for Those He Doesn’t Want to Testify Before Congress, “Coercing” Them Not to Do So in What May Be Witness Tampering
For the moments when we DO insist on elections, we must be PRECISE with what we need and we will do with that power:
How many seats does the party need to Codify Roe?
Dems must SAY THAT. Not just “go vote” or “give us $6 to win.” That is demoralizing, losing, unfocused nonsense
I really wish people would stop drastically using the scenarios of rape or incest as the sole premise for an abortion. A woman doesn’t have to be in a traumatic situation for it to be reason enough. In fact there is zero explanation that needs to be given.
I've been asking my male friends to do something - *watch if the first response to everything a woman tells you is to refute, say no or something negative*
One texted me later: Holy f*ck
The problem is, constantly putting up with unwarranted resistance is bad for mental health.
"You cannot be forced to donate blood, or marrow, or organs... They cannot even harvest your organs after your death without your explicit, written, pre-mortem permission. Denying women the right to abortion means we have less bodily autonomy than a corpse."
