‘Cytokine storm’ became a common phrase in the pandemic. In obesity it could be an inadequate immune response that contributed to poorer outcomes in COVID-19.
Interesting to note the role of leptin in the immune response 🧬 https://t.co/S9hYaHvskk

Interesting thread discussing some of the effects of tirzepatide independent of just weight loss e.g. changing relationships with food. Thanks for sharing @JesseLunsford
Worth a read for anyone in science:
"People mistakenly see optimism as an excuse for inaction. They think that it's pessimism that drives change, and optimism that keeps us where we are. The opposite is true. Optimists are the ones that move us forward” https://t.co/evpOAkhc3d
Snappy piece highlighting some of the interesting aspects of UPFs

A plea.
If you’re considering bariatric (weight loss) surgery outside the UK please think again.
The surgery will be fine but there will be no long term follow up and the risks of micronutrient deficiency and malnutrition will be high.

I listened to this over the summer but came back to it as it was such a good listen. Couldn't recommend this podcast enough to help the way we think about obesity and treatments.
A couple of takeaway points:
Prof le Roux then goes on to describe the effects of bariatric surgery and GLP-1 receptor agonists, so if you've enjoyed this thread, I'd recommend you go and listen 🧵🎧
The age old assumption is that overeating causes obesity
Now we realise that the disease of obesity causes overeating
Therefore making people eat less does not treat the disease of obesity
But
Treating obesity, the consequence is that people will eat less
