Through my research it has become clear to me how important it is to teach students the #21stcenturyskills, however what has really stood out to me is how interconnected these skills are with other global education focuses like sustainability and cultural diversity. #UoNTeach
@CarlyHarris12 Definitely, engaging with students through their culture benefits all students in the classroom, as they can all take something out of learning about different cultures.
To reflect on my research about #culturaldiversity, I have definitely learnt the importance of learning, recognising and celebrating all students culture. Through authentic learning across KLA’s cultural diversity can be supported in the classroom. #UoNTeach
@jaymieeve Group work is a great strategy, critical thinking and collaboration really go hand in hand with another if you are able to structure it right.
Asking the ‘why’ questions to students is just one way to promote #criticalthinking. How else can we promote and influence students to use critical thinking? Just one of the important skills for #21stcenturylearning. #UoNTeach
Understanding the importance of being culturally aware in the classroom is something I definitely think I have become more mindful of. As a teacher what are some ways we can become more culturally aware in the classroom? #UoNTeach
@CarlyHarris12 I totally agree, teaching students about this helps them make informed choices in the future. If a student has a good understanding of where and how food comes to their plate they have the potential to help influence their parents/caregivers as well.
@CarlyHarris12 That would be a great project for students! Researching where the food in their lunch boxes come from would make students become a lot more aware of what they are putting in their bodies as well. #sustainabilty#UoNTeach
@Aaron97UON@HovingtonMadde@naidocweek What I remember of NAIDOC week was when we had local Indigenous people in to share with us their culture. The learning experience was authentic and I think that’s why I remember this best. #UoNTeach#NAIDOCday
@DanielSangster6 Awesome idea. Having students promote sustainability is a great way to get the message out there, that our Earths environment is so important. I also like how it ties in with the #21stcenturyskills
@kehaniw1 I think group work is a start but needs to explicitly shown how to be done in a way that is effective. If students are shown how to collaborate effectively and bounce ideas of each other through intentional learning experiences it will strengthen these skills. #UoNTeach
@ashleeprice912@edutopia Some great ideas in there. Not only will it strengthen students cultural understandings, but also create a more harmonious class which will lead to a better teaching and learning experience.
@ashleeprice912 That’s a great idea. Art is such an important part of many cultures so displaying artworks is a great way to incorporate culture in the classroom. Dance and music are also great art forms to incorporate in the classroom. #UoNTeach
@ashleeprice912 Definitely agree! In a society where people interact with different cultures everyday, being taught the importance of being respectful to others culture is a vital skill to have. If everyone was culturally aware we would live in a much more harmonious society #UoNTeach
@JackPet36913706 Such a great resource, it’s so important to use a range of pedagogical practices so we are able to engage with all students students in the classroom #UoNTeach
