I think (mis)alignment is not formalizable/provable/decidable. You don't require such thing in relationships with other humans either. We should stop treating alignment as a primary, holy grail like, must have achievement. Of course we can restrict an agent, enforce some limits, but otherwise I think we should rather extend the legal liability framework from humans and corporations to agents too - to their owners, operators etc. instead.

@wvo nice, flat memory spaces are always tempting, you saw better cache usage, less TLB misses I guess, this gave the advantage, and the programmer is forced to write such memory friendly code
