Late Night Meetings, One More Death: Indian Bank's Gorakhpur Zone Under Question

A young ABM is dead. And the meetings that kept him on the road till late night were not for him alone. All ABMs under Gorakhpur Zone were called in the same way, again and again, through the last week.

Records shared by bank staff show the pattern. On 2 July, ABMs were called from 5 PM to 8:50 PM. On 6 July, from 3 PM to 7:45 PM. On 7 July, from 4 PM to 9:10 PM. On 8 July, from 4 PM to 7:40 PM.

Shahzadpur branch ABM Chandan Vikas, age 37, was one of them. His branch is 129 kilometers from the zonal office. On 8 July, after the meeting ended around 7:30 PM, he started the drive back. Just 15 kilometers from his room, his vehicle collided with a tractor loaded with bamboo. The bamboo pierced through his mouth. He died on the spot.

When word of his death reached the zonal office, the Zonal Manager did not step out of the cabin. The door stayed shut. Bankers who gathered in the hallway to protest were also left unheard.

This is not one officer being singled out. This is the standard practice at Gorakhpur Zone, and it is the standard practice at zonal and regional offices across almost every bank in the country. ABMs and branch managers are called in for physical meetings that start late and run past dinner time, then sent back on the same roads at night, often over 100 kilometers away.

A road accident is being recorded as the cause of death. But the real question is why an officer was on a highway close to 8 PM after a meeting that had no fixed end time, and why this is treated as routine across the banking sector.

हमारी आपसे से कोई व्यक्तिगत नाराज़गी नहीं है। हमारी केवल एक अपेक्षा है कि ऐसा कार्य वातावरण बनाया जाए, जहाँ कर्मचारी भय, अनावश्यक दबाव और मानसिक उत्पीड़न से मुक्त होकर सम्मानपूर्वक अपना दायित्व निभा सकें।

एक कर्मचारी का टूटना केवल एक व्यक्ति की हार नहीं, बल्कि पूरे संस्थान के लिए चेतावनी है। किसी भी संस्था की वास्तविक सफलता केवल लाभ में नहीं, बल्कि अपने कर्मचारियों के विश्वास, सम्मान और मानसिक स्वास्थ्य की रक्षा में होती है।

कृपया ऐसी कार्य संस्कृति विकसित करें, जहाँ किसी कर्मचारी को अपनी पीड़ा व्यक्त करने के लिए "Resignation" जैसा कदम उठाने की नौबत ही न आए

बैंक में जो भी ग्राहक आते हैं उनमें हर दुसरा ग्राहक कुछ न कुछ इमेरजेंसी लेके आता है, और बिजी तो वो इतना होता है कि 5 मिनट वेट करने में उसका करोड़ों का नुक़सान हो रहा हो। और जब स्टाफ़ लंच के लिए उठने वाला होता है तब तो लगभग 90% ग्राहक इमेरजेंसी ग्राहक बन जाते हैं। अगर सच में स्टाफ़ हर ग्राहक की बात पर भरोसा करके काम करता रहे तो वो कभी लंच कर ही नहीं पायेगा। क्योंकि उनमें से 99% फ़ेक इमेरजेंसी होते हैं। इसलिए लंच का एक फ़िक्स समय निर्धारित किया जाये जिससे ग्राहकों और बैंक कर्मियों दोनों को कोई परेशानी ना हो।

#5DayBanking तो नहीं हुई, हर रोज़ 15-20 मिनट के लंच के लिए और क्लेश शुरू हो गया है।@RBI के लोग मस्त #5DayBanking का मजा ले रहें हैं। लेकिन आम बैंकर्स के लिए 30 मिनट लंच का टाइम भी फ़िक्स नहीं कर पा रहें हैं। जबकि चार घंटे के काम के बाद 30 मिनट के लंच का क़ानूनी प्रावधान है। अभी इनको कोई सरकारी योजना लागू करवानी हो तो फिर यह देखो कैसे हाइपर एक्टिव हो जाते हैं। @bankpediaa @idesibanda
