We research, build, and fly new spacecraft tech @BYU and host the Spacecraft Club to teach undergrads to do the same. Now building: Passive Inspection CubeSats.
WE MADE CONTACT!!!
Hatchling is on orbit and doing fine π
Big thank you to @rocketlabusa for getting us there, to @iridiumcomm for getting our data down, and to so many others who helped us along the way.
We're so excited to carry out tests over the coming weeks and months.
BYU spinoff company, @careweather, has it's first satellite launch this week! As students, the Care Weather team was responsible for leading BYU's first CubeSat project, PICs. Here's hoping for successful contact and space operations for Hatchling!
Meet Hatchling Veery "Clay"! Hatchling is our first test satellite and it's on the @rocketlabusa launchpad in New Zealand right now! It paves the way for our future weather satellites designed to predict Earth's increasingly extreme weather. Learn more at https://t.co/qKBxgwdjiA.
The butterflies are rampant in the #byu watch room. 8 mins from drop and @Virgin_Orbit#LauncherOne rocket ignition. @byu's first satellites are going to space now!

Thank you to all the @byuengineering faculty and admins and all the @NASA officials who believed in us! And a huge shout-out to the 60 students who worked together to make @BYU first satellites a reality!! Your hard work is going to SPAAAAAAACE!
A 10cm x 10cm Cube Satellite built by BYU engineering students will soon launch on an official @NASA mission. A first for BYU, the satellite will take video and photos of other spacecraft and send that data back to earth. Think of it like a SPACECRAFT SELFIE CAM π·!!
@BYU's first #satellites, the Passive Inspection CubeSats, are officially installed into @Virgin_Orbit LauncherOne release system. We're beyond excited to see our hard work come to fruition as our satellites get launched and perform their mission!
@byu_flu@NASA
This weekend, our Passive Inspection CubeSats get a little closer to space as their launch vehicle spreads it's wings first time. We're rooting for you! And we can't wait to capture the epic moments on your second flight!

@pdxaerospace We just read about OreSat. We're using Pocketbeagle too! We'd love to talk to the OreSat team and see if we can collaborate!

We have TWO announcements:
1) Our PIC-A and PIC-B spacecraft passed their vibe test! This means that once all our documentation ducks are in a row, they'll be qualified to perform their mission of imaging a rocket launch system in space!

My work on scatterometers (especially nanosat-scale) was recently published in SPIE JARS as "Space of solutions to ocean surface wind measurement using scatterometer constellations." You can check it out here: https://t.co/9whwLcD4kP
Two cube-shaped "Astrobee" robots from @NASAAmes will soon be buzzing around the @Space_Station. Here's how they work >> https://t.co/QVqHxN2Ths ππ
