One of the major pillars of modern thought is the hubristic concept of Urdummheit -- the idea that our ancestors were stupid and that we’re much better than they.
The more I study ancient civilizations, the more one question keeps bothering me.
Have we dramatically underestimated how advanced their knowledge really was?
Because some of the things they built, and what they seemed to know, still don’t make complete sense today.
@EllyKayUSA 1. Nice to see an actress who has aged gracefully.
2. I hope this means NYS politics are starting to return to some semblance of normalcy. Before mass polarization, people used to elect Republicans to important offices. Used to have GOP governors and mayors of major cities.
@LittleBellowski@l1felong9er@ReichlinMelnick Assuming you're American, if British colonists didn't carve civilization out of the wilderness here and build up a big, beautiful country then you would be here right now and enjoying all these fancy tech toys.
In other words, STFU ingrate.
@ReichlinMelnick Whites are a global minority group. Repeatedly going on about how all of society's problems are caused by white people (a minority group), thus requiring the state to use its full power to attack that group, is LITERALLY FASCISM.
@FortressLugh Haplotardism is a form of escapism. People who identify with ancient DNA markers over their recent ancestry are likely those who have never plotted out their own family tree.
@SimonDerryX@FortressLugh You do realize that those are just two lineages among thousands of others within your overall genome?
Your Y-DNA and MtDna haplogroups say very little about modern day ethnicity.
@craft_pascal@woffydo@Codex_India6 While I agree with your reading of the gospels that Jesus rejects the OT, this is most certainly not a mainstream Christian belief. Most Christians are going to keep on thinking that the OT and NT gods are the same god.
@j_ustbrian@woffydo@Codex_India6 It's still an account of the workings of your deity, as long as you choose to have a copy of the Jew bible stapled to your gospels.
@hwenne248@FortressLugh Yeah there was no genocide. More likely it was assimilation into Anglo-Saxon culture.
I don't think the Saxons were bloodthirsty conquerors but instead opportunistic settlers. A lot of the native Britons became clients to the new Germanic elite.
@FortressLugh Honestly, the whole Anglosphere needs to be reformed into a constellation of principalities, perhaps using the old Celtic and Germanic models of kingship for executive governance of each principality. Let's get this party started!
@leibarg_01@OBEY_126@LarryOConnor It's called the Transatlantic accent. American Men of high rank and learnedness used to speak like that. Most younger people today only know that manner of speech through old movies.
