Every year, we help to account for, restore contact between, trace or reunite thousands of family members who lost contact or went missing because of armed conflict, situations of violence or disasters, or in the context of migration.
As next Friday we commemorate the World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day, we reaffirm our commitment to continue reuniting thousands of families around the world.
Ten years ago, the UN Security Council unanimously adopted Resolution 2286 on health care in armed conflicts. The situation is even worse compared to 10 years ago. Today, we mark not an achievement - we mark a failure.
States and all parties to armed conflict must comply with the rules protecting health care. The obligation to “respect and ensure respect” for international humanitarian law requires states not only to abide by these rules themselves, but also to use all possible influence to ensure that other states and parties to conflict do the same.

📍Mali | When there are violent incidents affecting health care, the impact goes beyond the immediate harm. Fear spreads of seeking care and not being treated.

During a recent visit, ICRC Deputy Director for Africa James Reynolds shared on the humanitarian situation and concerns about the growing needs. ⬇️
Civilians must be protected and respected, always.
Parties to conflicts are the only ones with enough power to enforce the rules of war, transform them into reality, and save lives.
In 2025, we carried out more than 4,500 surgical operations on weapon-wounded patients at the ICRC-supported hospitals in Renk, Juba, Akobo, and Malakal in #SouthSudan.
Across the world, families separated by war live with the pain of not knowing the fate of a loved one. The uncertainty does not end with time.
We work to help families reconnect and to clarify the fate of the missing. Because every family has the right to know.
Under international humanitarian law, a clear distinction must be drawn at all times between civilians and persons taking a direct part in hostilities as well as between civilian objects and military objectives. Civilians must never be the object of attacks. #IHL. #SouthSudan.
South Sudan | For almost a year, some families lived without a single word from those they love.
In Gorom Refugee Camp, together with @SSRCS, internet access is helping them hear familiar voices again, through calls, video chats, and family tracing services.
Central to our approach on Accountability to Affected populations is a commitment to spending more time in respectful dialogue with affected people, to better understand their lived experiences and ensure our responses are more relevant and appropriate. #SouthSudan. #SSoT.
