Even bull fighters are subject to “back in my (fictional nostalgic) day”

[Volodymyr Zelenskyy / Володимир Зеленський @ZelenskyyUa]

Overnight, the Russians used 39 ballistic missiles and more than 120 attack drones and loitering munitions against our energy and critical infrastructure in Kyiv, the Kyiv region, and Kharkiv. A targeted Russian ballistic missile strike specifically against energy infrastructure – the very infrastructure covered by the ceasefire announced by the American President. The strike was entirely deliberate and demonstrative in its scale – Russia has never before shown such ostentatious disrespect toward the United States. Russia does not consider the American President’s statements strong. Unfortunately, at least 600,000 people are now without power. Outages could become even more widespread. Unfortunately, there is significant damage to facilities and equipment – at 26 facilities of our power system and four facilities in the oil and gas sector. I am grateful to the repair crews, all Ukrainian energy workers, and the personnel of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine for all their efforts to address the aftermath of this Russian strike. Tragically, there have been fatalities and injuries.

We ask America and EVERYONE in the world who does not turn a blind eye to reality to respond – and to respond forcefully. Russia has squandered the opportunity for de-escalation and has clearly chosen to continue its insane war of annihilation. We ask President Trump to impose STRONG sanctions on Russia, especially since the Lindsey Graham bill, which was recently passed and signed into law, authorizes and regulates such measures. The American President has all the effective and necessary tools to bring peace closer through strength, justice, and pressure on the aggressor. We ask for additional packages of Patriot missile interceptors for Ukraine. It is entirely fair for us to tell the United States, Europe, and all our partners that no country in the world should be left alone to face such a deranged and pro-war actor as Russia. I am grateful to everyone who helps Ukraine! Peace can only come through strength, and we ask America to remember this principle of Reagan’s. Glory to Ukraine!

Wasn’t that long ago that diamonds were considered quite mediocre.

[Aakash Gupta @aakashgupta]

Walmart is selling real diamond earrings for $12.

Not a typo. Half-carat lab-grown diamonds, same carbon, graded by the same labs that grade the stone in your engagement ring. A jeweler can't tell them apart without a machine.

And that $12 price tag is why the company that invented the engagement ring is about to get sold for scrap.

De Beers ran the diamond trade for over a century. At its peak it controlled up to 90% of the world's rough supply, and when demand dipped it just locked diamonds in London vaults until prices came back. The slogan "A Diamond Is Forever" came from their ad agency in 1947. So did the rule that a ring should cost two months of your salary. Before that campaign, most American brides never got a diamond at all.

The whole thing held for 80 years because there were only so many mines. Then China started growing diamonds in reactors, and there's no vault on earth big enough to hide a factory's output.

Lab-grown wholesale prices have crashed roughly 96% from their peak, down to around $100 a carat. The Knot says 61% of engagement rings sold in 2025 had lab-grown center stones, up 239% since 2020. Even De Beers' own average selling price fell 32% in a year, to $105 a carat.

So Anglo American, which owns De Beers, has written it down by $6.8 billion in two years and is now in talks to sell the whole thing for about $1 billion. This is a company that was valued over $18 billion in 2001 and $13 billion as recently as 2011.

The stones coming out of the ground are the same as ever. The only scarce thing De Beers ever owned was the marketing, and marketing doesn't survive a $12 price tag at Walmart.

California is 37th in K-12 education. So what does the CTA focus on? Apparently, the parents are upset! Gee I wonder why 🙃🙃🙃

[Chander ரமேஷ் @chander]

A 51x increase in just 10 years! There’s no documented demographic equivalent anywhere

1. Pediatric bipolar diagnoses rose 40x in 9 years (94 to 03)
2. Autism diagnoses rose 4.8x in 22 years
3. Suicide rates among adolescent girls 3.8x in 20 years

This quote from Steve Jobs lives rent free in my head...

"People who are genuinely great at something don't compete. They don't care about being compared to others because they're so deep in their own lane that comparison would be a waste of time. They just do their thing."

[Chander ரமேஷ் @chander]

@izs @bcantrill is this a fair characterization?

[Chander ரமேஷ் @chander]

@zenarinn For 60% of Indians, Hindi is not their primary language. You’re talking in a business context they obviously chose the language they were more comfortable with. Shocking that they got upset by this 🙄

[Chander ரமேஷ் @chander]

@WillEhrendreich Hey! Yeah things are going alright!

[Chander ரமேஷ் @chander]

Were we ever a serious people 😂

I know it’s fashionable to be cynical these days but it’s really inspiring that mid Cold War the US and USSR could agree to this and execute it. Genuinely incredible.
