Via @AlyssaRosenberg on Across the Movie Aisle, this thing that the betting markets did with the “who will lead Venezuela on June 1st” thing is absurd https://t.co/Mp3Rdvzzae
Back in the day his fanbase was exclusively Tumblr exodus types doing screencaps of bits where he'd say 'I'm just a nice widdle boy'. Now he's experienced soul death and has left all that behind, it's great.
I worry that the social penalty of announcing that you believe in nonsense is going down.
It’s not so much that people are more conspiratorial than ever. That’s clearly not true. Believers in make-believe are an ancient tribe.
It’s more like … a falling social cost to high-status folks saying insane shit and protecting themselves from accusations of insanity by saying all they’re doing is opposing “the mainstream media” or “corporate media.”
Again, idiots, the 19th only mentions sex discrimination in voting, and there are more women voters than men, which means if you allow us the opportunity to, by repealing the 19th, we’re more likely to disenfranchise *you.*

@EclecticScribe The opposite. This makes it clear the story wasn't killed for quality or accuracy reasons. "it doesn't move the conversation forward' is newsroom speak for "it doesn't fit my politics". If there were an accuracy concern she'd have said so.
Again, if you have a condition like ADHD, anxiety, or depression, and it makes it harder for you to complete tests on time, that is something the test should *measure*, not something it should avoid measuring.
It seems the bigger story is which parts of the faith are actually growing. Walk into a once-booming progressive parish in New York City — many of them are half-empty today. Meanwhile, TLM and TLM-adjacent communities are packed and expanding. And this pattern isn’t limited to New York; it’s playing out across the country.
@katrosenfield I don't think it's beneath me to respond to criticisms of our work and engage in arguments. That's actually why I started something called... The Argument
