Dr Soumya Swaminathan @doctorsoumya has been elected as FRS, Fellow of Royal Society, one of the highest global hours that a scientist can receive.
@royalsociety
With her father Bharat Ratna Prof Swaminathan also being elected as FRS, this is the first daughter-father FRS duo from India.
Also she is the second Indian woman scientist being elected in 365 years history of Royal Society, the first being Prof Gagandeep Kang.
Very proud moment for Indian Science & indeed for us Indians.
Heartiest congratulations dear Soumya!

Full blown clash at MEA presser as reporter asks "why should India be trusted".
MEA's Secy West @AmbSibiGeorge responds by India's role in providing global help during Covid, India's constitution, fundamental rights.
The reporter leaves the presser, then later comes back.
Somehow this makes me feel so satisfied. Kudos to Gukesh for beating Hikaru and behaving unlike Hikaru. And shame on sepoys who try to apologize for and normalize unruly, uncouth behavior because your western master said "this is the new norm, we say so."
My FIL arrived from Kerala yesterday to spend Onam with us. The first thing he handed me was a list of some tests he needed done.
Without thinking twice, I opened the @1mgOfficial app & booked it in under a minute. Now I’ve used the service often enough to know how it goes, but this time went a bit differently.
Someone from the team noticed his name & realised they were running tests for the Metro Man of India. So instead of uploading the reports online, they decided to deliver them in person.
Along with came a thoughtful note from their regional head... & tucked inside was another one handwritten by their team.
Brought a smile to his face & reminded me why some brands stay on your list long after the transaction ends... 😇

BIG BREAKING ⚠️
India replies to Trump with no half-measures, calls out American hypocrisy on Russian oil, says India will “safeguard its national interest and economic security”.
I began my journey in the investment industry over 25 years ago — first as an associate with Kothari Pioneer Mutual Fund, then with JM Morgan Stanley. Eventually, I entered the world of brokerage, climbing from state head to national head, and later Vice President for institutional business.
From the outside, that may appear to be the summit — a coveted seat in a powerful world. Over two decades, I had the privilege to interact with the best minds, especially as a head of institutional business from 2009 had covered over 2,000 listed companies, work closely with investment banking, and be part of decisions that sometimes moved stocks.
I did over 500 interviews across television and print — a phase that would be considered prestigious by many during that time.
But here’s what most won’t see.
In that powerful seat, I had access to sensitive buy orders — blocks of 50,000 shares, sometimes even lakhs. One trade could move a stock ₹15–₹30 in minutes.
No Technicals
No fundamentals
Pure first hand raw information
I had complete liberty to trade intraday — no questions asked. Yet, for over four years, my trading volume was zero.
Not because of regulations.
Not because of risk.
But because I was answerable to something more permanent than any employer: my own conscience.
I wasn’t chasing shortcuts. I wasn’t interested in earning even a rupee that wasn’t earned with integrity. No matter how easy the gain, if it cost me my peace, it was too expensive.
Eventually, I stepped away. The corporate rat race no longer held meaning. The vanity of screens and headlines faded. What remained was silence — and in that silence, peace.
Today, I live with that peace. I’ve come to see that years of honest effort, stillness in intention, and a clean conscience open up a quiet space within — a space where intuition arises. Not fully, but glimpses. A voice that doesn’t shout, but reveals. Slowly. Naturally. Like nature revealing her secrets to those who no longer seek to exploit them.
What do I take from this journey?
That the goal behind every goal is peace.
That character is built over decades and can collapse in moments.
That shortcuts may offer wealth but will steal your sleep, your children’s future, and your dignity. You may not see the fall immediately — because karma is silent — but relentless. When it arrives, it doesn’t knock. It collapses.
And so, I say this not as a preacher, but as a witness:
Millions of middle-class families in India who live within their means — with discipline, with dignity — are far happier than the ultra-wealthy I have advised. I have seen both. I have lived one, and I’ve worked beside the other.
Don’t imitate the rich. Don’t aspire to become someone else’s definition of success.
Just live honestly, do your work with love, and leave the rest.
Whether life gives you a Benz or the Mumbai local, a first-class suite or a simple cot — accept both with the same grace. At the end of it all, it won’t matter what you rode in. It will matter who you became while walking the path.
Let your wealth be inner clarity. Let your earning be peace. And let your legacy be silence — the silence of a clear heart.

If @narendramodi ji is interested, I would be down to figuring out an economic structure where all Indian students, faculty and researchers can get Perplexity Pro.
*Where to Stop is Satisfaction*
I really enjoy "Kaun Banega Crorepati," a show that blends intelligence and entertainment. It adds to my knowledge, and I feel very happy whenever my answers are correct.
In a recent episode, Neeraj Saxena was the fastest to answer in the "Fastest Finger" round and took the hot seat.
He sat very calmly, without shouting, dancing, crying, raising his hands, or hugging Amitabh. Neeraj is a scientist, a Ph.D., and a Vice-Chancellor of a university in Kolkata. He has a pleasant and simple personality. He considers himself fortunate to have worked with Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam and mentioned that initially, he thought only about himself, but under Kalam's influence, he began thinking about others and the nation as well.
Neeraj started playing. He used the audience poll once, but since he had the "Double Dip" lifeline, he got the chance to use it again. He answered all the questions with ease, and his intelligence was impressive. He won ₹3,20,000 and an equivalent bonus amount, and then there was a break.
After the break, Amitabh announced, "Let's proceed, Dr. Sahab. Here comes the eleventh question..." Just then, Neeraj said, "Sir, I would like to quit."
Amitabh was surprised. Someone playing so well, with three lifelines still left, and a good chance to win a crore (₹1,00,00,000), was quitting? He asked, "This has never happened before..."
Neeraj calmly replied, "Other players are waiting, and they are younger than me. They should also get a chance. I have already won a lot of money. I feel 'what I have is enough.' I do not desire more."
Amitabh was stunned, and there was a moment of silence. Then, everyone stood up and applauded him for a long time.
Amitabh said, "We have learned a lot today. It is rare to see a person like this."
To be honest, it is the first time I have seen someone with such an opportunity before them, who thinks about others getting a chance and considers what they have as more than enough. I mentally saluted him.
Today, people are only chasing money. No matter how much they earn, there is no satisfaction, and the greed never ends. They are losing out on family, sleep, happiness, love, and friendship while chasing money.
In such times, people like Dr. Neeraj Saxena come as a reminder. In this age, satisfied and selfless people are hard to find.
After he quit the game, a girl took the hot seat and shared her story: "My father threw us out, including my mother, just because we are three daughters. Now, we live in an orphanage..."
I thought, if Neeraj had not quit, being the last day, no one else would have gotten a chance. Because of his sacrifice, this poor girl got an opportunity to earn some money.
In today's world, people are not ready to give up even a single penny from their inheritance. We see fights and even murders over it. Selfishness is rampant. But this example is an exception.
God resides in humans like Neeraj, who think about others and the country. I will never forget this great person in my life. I am happy to have had the chance to write about such a unique personality today.
When your needs are fulfilled, you should stop and give others a chance. Let go of selfishness, and everyone will be happy. This is the lesson I learned. I have always admired such individuals and believe that writing honestly about them is necessary for the betterment of society.🙏
