🌟Partnership to Empower Students with Disabilities🌟
FIDA Uganda, in collaboration with the @TwezuuleF conducted a sensitization session for students with disabilities. The program addressed the effects of early pregnancies, provided legal advice, and raised awareness on policies related to early pregnancies, mothers’ rights, and children’s rights.
“We've received numerous cases of child neglect, especially concerning children with disabilities. This is a serious issue that the government needs to address by establishing schools for these children at subsidized fees, as most parents cannot afford typical school fees,” shared Agnes Dhatemwa, Legal Officer, FIDA Uganda.
For 50 years, FIDA Uganda has championed the rights of vulnerable groups, and this initiative highlights our commitment to ensuring a safer, more inclusive society for all. 💜

Happening now: Skilling PWDs🙌🏾
FIDA Uganda’s Kampala Legal Aid Clinic, under the DIGI Project supported by @CivsourceAfrica, is conducting skills training in liquid soap making and financial literacy by @BugembeNelson founder of @TwezuuleF for 25 Women with Disabilities from Kasanga, Makindye Division, Kampala.
This training is a key component of FIDA Uganda’s SAME model, which aims to economically empower women and ensure their self-reliance and financial stability. By providing these valuable skills, we are helping to create opportunities for women with disabilities to achieve independence and secure livelihoods.
This activity aligns with our mission of increasing access to effective legal aid services and is one of the key outcomes under our ongoing efforts to support Women with Disabilities (WWDs). As we mark 50 years of advocacy, this initiative continues to reflect our commitment to empowering marginalized communities and enhancing their access to justice and economic opportunities. 💪🏽💼✨

Last week, through @FIDA_Uganda ’s Kampala Legal Aid Clinic under the DIGI Project supported by @CivsourceAfrica I had the privilege of facilitating a training session on financial literacy and liquid soap making for 25 Women with Disabilities from Kasanga, Makindye Division, Kampala.
During the session, I shared how soft skills are not just for those who fail in formal education but are crucial for empowering their children to seize future opportunities.
The energy and eagerness to learn from these incredible mothers were truly inspiring, especially as they warmly referred to me as mutabani (son) while engaging with thoughtful questions.
After diving into financial literacy, we transitioned to practical skills in liquid soap making, equipping participants with tools to boost their self-reliance and improve their livelihoods.
This initiative aligns with FIDA Uganda’s SAME model, aimed at economically empowering Women with Disabilities and fostering financial stability. I am honored to have been part of this impactful journey, contributing to skills development and inclusion.
Together, we are creating sustainable opportunities for transformation.

From Grief to Gratitude✨
As we mark 50 years of championing women’s rights, a visually impaired client shares her story of transformation. Grieving her husband’s loss, she turned to FIDA for legal aid. Through effective representation, she secured letters of administration, unlocking her late husband’s NSSF benefits.
With these funds, she built a home, purchased land in Oyam District, and created a stable future for her children.
Her gratitude: “My children and I have a home to call our own. Thank you, FIDA Uganda. May God bless you.”
A testament to FIDA’s 50-year legacy of empowering women and families!🙌🏾

•GBV-related concerns
To ensure comprehensive support, we’ve referred cases to Kampala Legal Aid Clinic, Justice Centres Mukono, and the @ug_lawsociety branches in Jinja and Mbarara. Our work is driven by collaboration, and we are deeply grateful to @NUDIPU for their partnership and largely to the DIGI Project supported by @CivsourceAfrica for facilitating our initiatives in advancing disability inclusion.
