Should Google Acquire HubSpot?

on friday's episode, the besties covered reports that $GOOG was considering making a bid to purchase $HUBS

@chamath asked @friedberg, if you were @google, would you rather spend:

-- $50B to acquire @HubSpot
-- or $5B to acquire @perplexity_ai?

@friedberg thinks $GOOG should focus on $HUBS to protect its massive ad business:

"you're protecting a quarter-trillion dollar ad business. hubspot makes $2B in revenue, so it's 1% of the size of google's ad business, and it helps you lock in some percentage of that $250B."

@jason explains why the acquisition would be accretive: the data!

"i think this is about the data. these are the leads and the great contacts in the database of the customer, which google doesn't have access to. if google knows the leads that are already in there, they can retarget them across their entire ad network, which is the largest in the world."
