His latest project?
A full-body scanner that aims to map the human body in ~60 seconds using advanced ultrasound technology, wrapped inside what he calls a "medical spa" experience, complete with saunas, cold plunges, and wellness facilities.
At first glance, it sounds crazy.
Then you realize he's pursuing the same idea he's always pursued:
Making the invisible visible.

This isn't just an AI company entering healthcare.
Midjourney partnered with @ButterflyNetInc, a pioneer of portable ultrasound technology.
The current scanner prototype incorporates 40 Butterfly Ultrasound-on-Chip modules, with hundreds of thousands of sensors capturing data simultaneously and over 2 petaflops of compute processing the results. The scanner combines cutting-edge hardware, physics, and compute to create detailed 3D maps of the human body.
The problem with today's imaging world:
- MRI scans are expensive and often difficult to access.
- Appointments can take weeks.
- CT scans involve radiation.
- Most people get only occasional snapshots of what's happening inside their bodies.
The result?
Healthcare is often reactive rather than preventive.
Midjourney's vision is different:
Imagine if understanding your body became as routine as tracking your steps or checking your heart rate.

For decades, cryo-EM has revolutionized biology by allowing scientists to see molecular structures at near-atomic resolution.
But there was one major limitation:
More than 90% of human proteins are simply too small to be imaged clearly with today's cryo-EM systems.
In other words, much of the cell's molecular machinery has remained effectively invisible.
UC Berkeley and Biohub have now demonstrated a revolutionary "laser phase plate" that dramatically boosts image contrast, allowing researchers to visualize previously hidden proteins and molecular interactions inside cells.

When people come to me for advice, my first reaction is: What makes you think I'm qualified?
Just because I've gotten lucky in business, does that make me qualified to advise you on your career, your life choices, or anything apart from how to get lucky? 😀
There are startup founders, especially people working in the social sector, whom I meet through @RainmatterOrg, and I think they are far smarter and more capable of giving advice than I am.
If you still pick a role model, pick someone for a trait worth admiring in real life, not because of what they project to the outside world.
Aging is arguably the root cause of most major diseases (loss of function in our cells). Four years ago, we made a bet that aging was treatable, and NewLimit was born.
NewLimit now has a prototype drug that reverses the age of some human cells (restores function they had when they were younger), and a clinical trial scheduled for next year (with more drug candidates in the pipeline).
