The two best FPS studios in the industry are @idSoftware and @Bungie. Microsoft owns one, Sony owns the other. Both know how to ship great content at an impressive pace, and both are still capable of that despite layoffs- given the right reasonably scoped idea. Worth investment.
NEW VIDEO: It's time to greenlight something else at Bungie, no one can think Marathon can be it, even if it's a portfolio game. And you'll never guess what IP I think a new game should be from

@GergelyOrosz@wesbos@stolinski I don’t think anyone has made the comparison yet, but it’s the exact same dopamine cycle that led to the development of the mobile gaming dark pattern known as “return triggers” that led to “appointment gameplay” https://t.co/T3B7Kwt6eC
@PaulTassi Even the green screen’d talking head Direct style presentations we saw with the xbox showcase have SO much less energy than, say, Todd Howard’s Fallout 4 reveal or Jobs iPhone reveal. Just record a stage with a big screen behind y’all, companies. It’s not hard to be smart!
@PaulTassi Watching old E3 and Steve Jobs videos a lot this summer and realizing how it could easily be a colossally huge “free” marketing beat if they just turned on the stream and presented with any amount of bravado and aura. I will never get why we abandoned what worked!
@DanielRPK Not surprising IGN would see what others are missing! A gaming news outlet would understand that we’re in a “play the hits” market, and successes reinforce that strategy instead of providing breathing room for risk-taking.
This thinking and Bethesda’s comment on player creation within their games is part of the same trend-line. I really think Microsoft’s commitment to BGS isn’t just about the IP strength, it’s about their platform capabilities.

@shadcn I know what you’re referring to and yes, no joke, we’re going to all converge on Clippy. As always, games got there first with the rise of Desktop Games.
It’s interesting how video games, an industry that has more required variety in roles, has solved this problem socially for a long time. Video games are software, but we also consider them art more readily than other software, so the idea of a “solo dev” is well-understood.
.@pmarca on the "three-way Mexican standoff" between coders, PMs, and designers:
"I'm seeing it in a bunch of the early leading edge companies in the Valley, they're circling around a job title loosely called 'builder,' or something like it. And basically the idea is that you had these separate jobs in the past of programmer, product manager, and designer."
" I've been describing what's happening in the Valley companies as sort of this three-way Mexican standoff, where the programmers think that they don't need the product managers and the designers anymore 'cause they can have AI do that, and then each of the other two doesn't think they need the other two either."
"I've been predicting they're all correct. The product manager can generate code and design now, and each of them can do the job of all three. The idea is the jobs change so now the job is builder."
@MTSlive
@DMC_Ryan They’ll use Unreal because their team knows it, and when a good small Fallout game is the result it’ll further prove after Campaign Evolved that iconic gameplay can be replicated close-enough-for-consumers in Unreal, retroactively validating the abandonment of IdTech.
@GenePark I’m hoping Hugo & the rest of the remaining team get to make the first person shooter Sekiro/Elden Ring/Dark Fantasy Metroid Prime they are itching and capable of making. Of all XBOX’s teams, this is the one I’d go full CAPCOM and let them cook new IP. They will give a PRAGMATA.
@GenePark@Romudeth I can’t fathom a reversal so I think a goodwill step would be to work with/invest in third-party (iam8bit, limited run, special reserve, etc.) especially as part of collector’s editions. Discs have become prestige collector items so invest in those who treat them that way.
My assumption the moment we heard the Ninja Theory news was that NT leadership wanted the opportunity to shop their studio, IP, and in-development game on the biggest stage possible to court suitors. Seems to be the case.
Hi @asha_shar buy the half of Bungie Sony isn’t willing to keep and they will turn out an incredible game feel Fallout FPS in 2 years as a stopgap for the next RPG Bethesda that will likely take 5-7. They are best in biz at FPS, world design, and have been ITCHING for more RPG.
@vicious696 I’ve long yearned they embrace the arcade mentality that echoes the way we made our own fun in that fantastic sandbox years ago. I’m hoping Unreal helps them ship faster, and say yes to more ways to extend and vary the gameplay. Skulls video leans this direction!
@knowsworthy This is why “Payback” was gonna be such an exciting step forward for the franchise, right? Feel free to just like this post if that’s all you can confirm lol
