Normalize college clubs making launch videos like startups
recently I wanted to make it a goal to create more high intentional and high quality content for the startup accelerator incubator at the Claremont Colleges (Claremont Accelerator)
with previous CA founders dropping out of college and going off to @ycombinator@a16z@join_ef@zfellows@AforeVC we had a more convincing story to tell at CA to grow the startup scene at the 5C's
and as the head of marketing, I wanted to convey the mission of CA in the most simple and aesthetically pleasing way possible
what better way then to start off our year with a motion graphic launch video as if we were a startup
enjoy
The seventh edition of our Top 100 Consumer AI Apps is here.
New this time: a revenue leaderboard, alongside the usual web and mobile traffic rankings.
Three years ago we published the first edition. ChatGPT was #1, Claude was unranked, and the entire category was chatbots, image generators, and not much else.
In today's edition:
- ChatGPT still holds the throne, now with 1B+ monthly actives on mobile
- Claude has climbed to #3 on web with nearly 1B monthly visits
- The category has expanded to vibe coding (Lovable, Cursor, Replit), music (Suno), design (Figma), voice (ElevenLabs), video (Higgsfield, Kling), agents (Manus), and even hardware (Plaud)

I’m excited to announce that @arceuslegal is launching with $17M in funding, led by @greycroftvc, with participation from @craft_ventures, @spc, and others.
As a founder, I always hated how helpless I felt working with law firms.
I went through four or five different firms and somehow the experience was always the same.
I’d be waiting on something important to our business with no idea when I’d hear back. I’d have to re-explain our business over and over again. And I dreaded jumping on calls because I knew every minute was costing me money.
We started Arceus because we believe every business deserves a better law firm.
One that moves faster, costs less, and puts the client first.
And we’re just getting started. ↓
What are the odds of bringing an actual llama with a black tie to SF Tech Week? 🦙
My brand activation pitch for @llama_index at the Agent Economy Gala: Pitch the Llama.
Bring the startup mascot to life with an actual llama making a guest appearance as the Chief Document Officer.
Beside it: pens, cocktail napkins, and a QR code.
Write your company’s name, what you do, and one challenge you’re working through. Scan the QR code and photograph your napkin.
A custom mobile experience sends the image to LlamaParse to read the handwriting. After you confirm the text, AI generates your “Llama Review”: one thoughtful question and a playful verdict, delivered straight to your phone.
Lastly, hold up your napkin and take a pic with the CDO(Chief Document Officer aka the llama)
If this doesn’t work, then attendees can still take a pic with the llama, drop their napkins in a box for a raffle and three individuals can get LlamaParse Pro for a free month announced during the event!
Founders bring their company.
Founding operators bring a bottleneck.
Investors bring an investment thesis.
You leave with a memorable experience, a photo with a literal llama, and a firsthand understanding of what LlamaIndex does: turn messy documents into information AI can use.
@jerryjliu0 Imagine a room full of founders, operators, and investors comparing the challenges they told the llama
With venue approval and a professional handler, a short llama appearance could become an unforgettable stunt of SF Tech Week and will go viral in the startup world
This is my submission for the Agent Economy Gala, part of @Techweek_ by @a16z in San Francisco, and it's going to become the biggest event of Tech Week.

If you know anyone looking for a good and fairly AI-proof career, watchmaker (= watch repairer) seems a promising one. Every watchmaker seems to have more work than he can handle, mechanical watches are increasingly popular, and it will be a while before AI does this.
“The right agent won’t be an app.” – @vkhosla
“Where do most people live? They live in their email, they live in text messaging, they live in Slack.”
“The app, if there’s one, is just in the background.”
“Meeting a consumer where they are—the consumer experience is really, really important.”
Ben Horowitz says this may be one of the best times in history to be 18: you're entering a world only your generation will understand.
"I would be thrilled to be 18. I think it is one of the best times in history to be 18. It's unfortunate because I think the systems for getting people into work currently make people really nervous about their future."
"This is like Thomas Edison's time or Henry Ford's time. You're going into a world that only you will understand. People like me will have a much more difficult time understanding the world than you will, what's possible, and what you can do."
"You're going to go in at a very young age being more capable than people with 30 or 40 years of experience. That's just amazing because normally you've got to work your way up the corporate ladder, spend 20 years developing your status and credibility."
"Now you can come out right off the rip, using the new tools to solve almost any problem out there... Are we out of problems? All I read about is problems. There are problems everywhere. Now you can go out and attack them directly."

Introducing Canto, our latest speech model for real-time dictation.
On our evaluation of 9.8 hours of English Flow dictations from more than 2,300 speakers, Canto achieved a 3.4% word error rate—the lowest among the models we tested.
Learn more about Canto from our CSO, Ariya Rastrow:
Activision CMO @tylerbahl says every marketing idea has to pass the same three-part test: stature, swagger, and scale.
"Stature is asking 'How do I do something that only Call of Duty can do?' So when we go to market, we want to be across the street from everybody else. We don't want to be in the same building."
"When we think about swagger and when we look at creative or think about a partnership, we're thinking 'Does it have swagger? Is it cool? Is it interesting? How are we innovating in that space?'"
"For scale, we ask 'How do I reach as many people as possible?' Because I'm not just talking to a niche gaming audience. We have 100 million people playing our free-to-play game and one billion players on our mobile game."
"So when we have an idea or someone's pitching me something and it checks these three boxes, green light, go all the way."
