The fourth episode in our Awakening the Machine series features @perrymetzger, computer scientist and co-founder of @aftfuture. He explains core concepts, highlights aspects of AI that concern him, but warns that being too afraid of AI could lead to the worst possible outcomes.
@fendien@ephraimyarmak@Work_Bench digging up 20 year old expertise is a secret weapon. That tech didn't go anywhere while you were off doing other things.
@hnshah Whether it leaks something true that’s meant to be not public or confabulates something which people then believe to be leaked and true - different causes but similar outcomes
@edsim Agreed. It reminded me of the subservient chicken from 20 years ago. Even if you work out how the magic is done, the execution was amazing. I loaded a team anniversary video and it said “we were bursting w pride”. Correct.
@nrmehta Have you already read “origins of consciousness through the breakdown of the bicameral mind”? I’m considering rereading with an eye to the interesting advances in AI lately.
@Carnage4Life Happens whenever you change jobs in the same industry (eg financial services). It can be higher level too when two companies interpret the same regulation in different ways that can both be “correct” but have huge implications.
@Carnage4Life Usually resolved when something really bad happens and someone pulls you aside. Then you have to re-evaluate the past 6 months with your new version of what that word really meant. (eg Sixth Sense).
@jaltma In most orgs, the only way to fix this (whether they were underpaid to begin with, or became so over time) is to use the entire teams budgeted increase for the one person or to force a reprice for the entire team (which has all sorts of unintended consequences).
@adzflowers@drjessicabarker Your biggest risk is auto accidents as seen by the number of personal injury billboards. I wouldn’t walk to any of the places mentioned but there as much due to the heat and distance as anything else
@drjessicabarker@BluebellFlora1 Death Valley is amazing and worth visiting many times but it’s a full day trip from Las Vegas and as Jesica says it’s pretty hot right now. Dangerous hot.
@drjessicabarker@sammymangopants It’s a nice patch of grass and trees with some history and trails. Outdoor theatre in the summer. Not sure any conference visitors will find it that interesting after passing red rock canyon.
