@kalezelden@millerman The key is that cultists in Silicon Valley explicitly and consciously want to be ruled by or exterminated by AI. A potpourri of ridiculous ideas including revamped Social Darwinism applied to machines.
@ZacCrippen If you look at the supporters, they are part of longstanding cults that view it as desirable, not just inevitable, that we are either succeeded (speciecide) or merge our consciousness with the ASI.
@kserrec@22TrevorBingham Why do we “need” it when we’ve gotten in without it for millenia? This is fundamentally a different promise with this technology than steam engines. It’s not merely a machine when the telos is to replicate and surpass human intelligence and cognition.
@gcolbourn The crazy thing is this isn’t like a natural disaster. There is no physical law of technological “progress”. You can simply not build this shit, as we have done with plenty of other techs (e.g. human cloning)
@henryjkwallis I agree it was bad but he wasn’t just a spiritual guide, he was the supreme head of a state that commits atrocities against it’s own people, destabilizes belligerently and funds terror groups that commit similarly grevious crimes. AES also was not asked about his family.
