'Following on from my last post…. Another Bully story and what we are facing in the U.K. Today I was contacted by a vets who needed help with an XL who was going to be put to sleep then and there. The vets had no where to turn. At this point I had seen not seen photos and with such limited options with the legislation that is coming I told the vets I could not take him but to send me some photos and I’d make some calls, knowing in my heart of hearts I wouldn’t find him the immediate space he needed. The photos came through and my heart literally couldn’t not help him. Even with the odds stacked so highly against him, because of his breed, I couldn’t see an animal in this condition be put to death after all the abuse he has suffered. For the sake of him and my own brain I picked him up and he is now recovering treatment at my vets. I just couldn’t leave him behind. He is so starved and weak he cannot walk. The owner known and is being properly investigated, and hopefully prosecuted, by the relevant organisation but he will remain a New Hope dog. Thankfully we got straight on the case and we now have a safe and legal option for him before the legislation comes into force but for now he will stay in our care until he is in better condition. This poor boy remains sweet, despite being a victim in so many ways. ⭐️ Please spare a thought for people working in rescue, could you cope with this every day?

XL Bully, dumped at a vets in London to be pts. The vet intervened and called a small rescue charity. He is safe and one of the lucky ones.

💔 Today is a DARK day. The XL Bully ban is now in place in the United Kingdom. XL Bullys are being abandoned in the street, sent to Scotland and left on 'death row' in kill shelters, according to news reports and NGOs.

🐾 Hundreds of XL Bully dogs in shelters are set to be killed within days. Shelters that won’t kill are now unable to rehome the dogs. This is placing a huge strain on already bursting shelters.

📝 Under plans announced by @RishiSunak earlier this year, it is now illegal to “own” any dog who meets the XL Bully definition from TODAY, December 31, and dogs must be muzzled in public and legally registered by the end of #January.

The definition of an XL Bully says if a dog meets a minimum height and has a "substantial number" of defined characteristics, it can be considered a bully XL.

The @RSPCA_official says it is not clear what is meant by "substantial.

@eddiemair Steve has got it wrong. Schools weren’t back in May 2020. He’s thinking 2021. In May only skeleton staff were in caring for keyworker children. I was one of them. We definitely didn’t socialise between staff.
