Horrible glacier detachment at #Marmolada, the videos of the avalanche taken from the ground are particularly scary.
It looks like the crevasse that ultimately failed is prominently visible prior to collapse and the entire glacier was stripped of its snow cover (rare for July).

Such a tragedy at the Marmolada glacier. No definitive cause, but the unseasonably warm temperatures in Europe could have played a part, alongside continued destabilization of the mountain cryosphere under a warming climate. Thoughts with all affected. 💔
