Today CEHURD and the East African Youth Network (@EAYNOfficia) convened a partners meeting with the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) MPs, to create awareness and discuss strategies for implementating the EAC Youth Policy- SRHR Commitments.

EALA Mps have committed to work hand in hand with CSOs for example through the EALA Women caucus and the Youth parliamentary forum to ensure that the YSRHR commitments are implemented throughout the EAC region despite the challenges faced from different sects and domestic policies.

UPDATE: In a bid to ease traffic congestion along the Kampala-Mukono Highway, the Uganda Railways Corporation (URC) has introduced a school train service to transport students. The service was launched today in starting with Seroma High School in Mukono. URC officials say the service will also be used to return students when schools resume, providing a safer and more efficient alternative to road transport.

The #AfCFTA Secretariat is undertaking a benchmarking mission to the European Commission (13–17 April 2026) to support implementation of the Digital Trade Protocol, with backing from UNDP and the Better Than Cash Alliance.

Drawing on EU expertise in digital trade governance, regulatory harmonisation, and cross-border data frameworks, the mission will strengthen coordination and advance inclusive digital transformation across Africa.

Uganda’s greatest strength is its people, especially our youth. With over 73% of our population being young, the future of our country depends on how well we invest in their potential today.

At the 4th National Labour Convention and Expo 2026 held today at Serena Hotel, I called for the urgent need to act decisively. We must create jobs through key sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, and the digital economy, while equipping our young people with relevant skills and supporting entrepreneurship and innovation.
This must go hand in hand with inclusion. We need to ensure that women, persons with disabilities, and other vulnerable groups are fully supported to participate in the labour market and benefit from economic opportunities.

To achieve meaningful impact, I urged stakeholders to move beyond discussion and deliver real, measurable results that improve the lives of our young people.

I also called for stronger protection of Ugandan workers abroad, including fair wage negotiations and better safeguards to ensure they are treated with dignity and earn what they deserve.

The 42nd Meeting of the Sectoral Council on Cooperation in Defence Affairs is taking place today at the EAC Headquarters in Arusha, Tanzania.

The Council will consider and adopt key agenda items reviewed by the 42nd Consultative Committee on Cooperation in Defence Affairs, which has been meeting this week at the Headquarters.

Among the items for adoption are the development of EAC Civil-Military Cooperation Guidelines, the Report of the Multi-Agency Experts Working Group (MEWG) on the EAC Mutual Defence Pact, and activities scheduled for the upcoming half-year calendar, among others.
