@jamescham@nickarner@HammadTime Aww, thanks, James. For folks interested in learning more about Doug and his work, the best place to start is with the Doug Engelbart Institute, which is run by his daughter, @ChristinaDEI, who worked closely with him for many years.
@anniierau@depthsofwiki@doyendon@spdrock H/T to @presroi for bringing this to my attention (and for bringing me back here after a while away — follow me on Threads at eugeneerickim to continue this conversation).
17 years ago, I had the great honor of being the first person outside of the intelligence community to receive an Intellipedia shovel. https://t.co/gOGwdLBbbU
@anniierau@depthsofwiki My price for sentiment is high, so I'm unlikely to sell (although I haven't actually met her first-born, so maybe I'd reconsider). @doyendon, @spdrock, maybe one of you could hook her up?
I wanted to write about the mixed feelings that came up for me in that moment, and I ended up going on a bit about what I've been learning about birds during the pandemic. 2/2 https://t.co/X4fU1lg6oB
This past April, I went on a fantastic walk in Point Reyes led by the River Otter Ecology Project, where we came across this ravens nest and its (at least) two occupants on the side of a cliff. Turns out these magnificent birds also eat endangered Snowy Plover chicks. 1/2
@rlope Thanks for your thoughts and question @rlope! Yes, I think you can feel grateful without feel fulfilled. If I were starving and found a few nuts, I think I would feel grateful for the food without feeling completely fulfilled.
Tommy Lasorda and Doug Rau's mound visit from the 1977 World Series (NSFW). If you’ve never seen this, I suggest you watch. Lasorda tells it like it is.
@fasterthan20@BelovedEcon For those who can't make it on Thursday, I'll be participating in a much more informal gathering with the co-authors next Tuesday, October 18 from 6-7:30pm at @blackbirdbooksf. Would love to see you there!
