@JacquelynGill @FernDoctor@DukeU Amplifying this as a Duke alum who got started in plant research at @DukeU, this saddens me deeply because my fascination and appreciation of botany started in this herbarium. Having only worked in the lab setting, being in the herbarium was a big ‘aha’ moment for me 🌱🌏
@CcrClot Just found a paper that describes adaxial/abaxial epidermis of petals—so this is adaxial patterning here. What’s weird is that the no-color sectors do not affect the abaxial side on this but it does continue on for the flowers in your banner pic!
Found the most unexpected and pleasing behind the petal (is there’s a botanical term for this?) flower phenotype today. At first glance it looked like columbine flowers to me 🥹 #potato#solanum

Tropical fruit bowl featuring one of my favs of all time—mangosteen aka her majesty 👸🏻 of fruits 🥹 💜, of which Alfred Russel Wallace wrote, “whose refreshing and cooling qualities are so wholesome…a food of the most exquisite flavour it is unsurpassed.”
I would add that one of the most alluring aspects when eating a freshly picked, tree ripened mangosteen is its mysterious and indescribable “flavor” that is all at once sweet, tart, juicy, slightly creamy yet perfectly balanced—a truly magnificent food
So, you think you know what potato variety you are working with? Admirable sleuthing by Kirk Amundson in tracking down the elusive origin of a potato clone once thought to be Desiree. The story of Red Polenta: https://t.co/abEMAJ7I9K
On Wednesday, Maine will be the only State where women lead the top post in all three branches of government: Gov. Janet Mills, Chief Justice Valerie Stanfill, and Speaker of the House Rachel Talbot Ross.
Proud to serve under their leadership and cast my vote for @RTalbotRoss!
