@mebe1979 @wmarybeard @BBCr4today Probably not. Bede would not have lived in a Abbey built in part from ruins of Hadrian's Wall and he would have known who had built it. The collapse was less sudden, but say it was not deep and protracted is hard to justify, we now almost nothing of Northumbria from c. 300 - 600.
