A source tells me that many Russian tanks/heavy machines don’t simply run out of fuel — crews dump the fuel intentionally, as soon as they learn that their destination is Kyiv. After all they’ve been told that they were going as “peacekeepers” to “protect Russians” in Donbas.

@ADoolotkeldieva Was thinking the same, @ADoolotkeldieva. Support for Russia was striking in our focus groups, though Gallup data from earlier in the decade suggests support for Crimea annexation then was low. Something profound happened w/ Russian soft power bt. 2014 and today. Let's write.

Quick running of the numbers using 2006-2020 Kazakh public opinion surveys. Approval of Russian leadership declined from 86% in 2007 to 54% in 2020. Russian CSTO troops may face a chilly reception in Kazakhstan.
