I understand what you are saying, the fact that their are 2 cars running around Dallas a city not previously operated in, with no one in them is the fact enough this FSD is solved. I think, they are actively in the stage of solving the Waymo problem. Waymo’s are generally safe and move a lot of people. But every now and then, 3 of them freeze up at the same light. It’s a bad deal and makes the whole technology look incompetent. I think they are waiting on 15 to wake the whole fleet up. They don’t even know if 15 will be good enough, but they are confident enough in it to bring it up.
To the original post, I expect them to feed the cybercab into the Robotaxi fleet. The model y Robotaxi didn’t make sense other than testing and validation because they can sell all they can make to a customer. The cybercab will take that role now since it’s rolling off the line.

@congressdj @Hertz @Tesla When @Hertz quit renting them I switched to @turo and I can get FSD with these owners renting on Turo. Sure it’s more hassle because they don’t have a rental counter. But I also like to be able to actually choose the vehicle I’ll be driving.

@DallasAptGP My assumption is the masses won’t bite until it’s unsupervised. I expect when it’s unsupervised they will advertise. I expect the take rate to be near 100% once it’s unsupervised.

I agree with you on that point. I should clarify, I don’t think Car ownership will go away. Just like horses didn’t go away. We will just use them differently. There are guys with warehouses full of cars. That’s not going to change. The vast majority of Americans will take the most affordable/efficient mode of transportation available. Anyone that can afford to do otherwise will own their own car.

It’s starting to make sense why O’Dowd wants FSD banned. Every real world drive makes the moat that much bigger for any would be competitor.
His message is not that it shouldn’t exist, just that it shouldn’t be allowed on the road until it’s “ready”.
I’m still trying to understand why he’s barking into the wind. Who is he trying to sway?

Tesla says that FSD "requires a fully attentive driver". But its driver monitoring system is so defective that the driver can text, read a book or even fall asleep at the wheel.

Ford and GM figured out an effective driver monitoring system years ago. Why can't @Tesla?

@TrevorScottReal Yes just like you loose the$2000 worth if tires. FSD has always been a per car purchase not a per person.
They made exceptions to that.
