No he didn't.
"We implement here a brainwide leaky integrate-and-fire model—one of the simplest biologically plausible neural models"
Basically what they did is run a simplified model to predict some neural activities in the flies brain not simulate the entire brain.
I worked on the fly connectome for over 6 years, and let me just say that y’all have to slow this hype train way down.
Connectomes are amazing. Biomechanical models are amazing. Linking the two is awesome.
But scientists at the HHMI Janelia Research Campus, Princeton, and other institutes have been working on this for years now, and it’s not clear to me what’s new in the below.
And connectomes are still missing a LOT of information. We’ve had the connectome of the worm for over 30 years now, and we still can’t reliably simulate a virtual worm.
For example, connectomes don’t capture information about neuromodulator or neuropeptide release sites or receptors. These molecules are constantly changing the properties of neurons in the brain in ways that we have yet to really understand.
And we don’t yet understand animal behavior well enough to refine and/or evaluate whole-brain simulations effectively.
@AdamMarblestone and @doristsao already made many of these points, as well as many other good ones, but I just wanted to also add my two cents.
@pratyush_r8@zain_hoda@pratyush_r8 , are you claiming that Thine can record calls as well? or that it pauses during calls and then resumes automatically? Also, I assume the always-on mode will show a mic activation (orange dot) 24/7 on the iPhone?
@MLStreetTalk Tech bros hyping without explaining the consequences. Its baffling enough to become so dependent on LLMs that one can't function without them but on top of that giving access to basically everything to a tool that can execute things without even understanding it is just bonkers!
@Google@OfficialLoganK, if I have my private bank accounts and ID cards saved in photos and mail, they would be used to train the model as per this policy right?
Google has soo much data already, can you please add an option to turn off model improvement like OpenAI?
@GaryMarcus@bilawalsidhu@GaryMarcus You will be fascinated by the stuff they have solved within convenience offerings. There is also an app that you can use to send items to anyone within the city in 20-30 mins. People have used that to send stuff just 3-4 floors below in the same building 😂
The medical specialties most likely to be replaced by AI soon, in order:
Pathology
Radiology
Ophthalmology (non-surgical)
Dermatology (non-intervention)
Primary Care
Internal medicine (diagnostics)
In 10 years, 90% of medical specialties will be replaced by AI+robots
I don't have a lot of reach but I have always said the following things to my friends and family:
- LLMs do NOT understand or have emotions.
- LLMs cannot provide therapy.
Please I urge you to talk to someone close or a professional about your difficulties. @GaryMarcus#tfbr

This is what's with the whole industry. Hype^Infinity. No they are not "super-intelligent". No they don't "hear" you. No they don't "understand" you. An average person doesn't understand how these models work so they WILL succumb to your marketing tactics.
