It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved member and colleague, SHEMA Valentin, a 3rd Year Medical Student.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, classmates, and loved ones.
May his soul rest in eternal peace. 🕊️
RIP Valentin
Women had to shut down the country just to be heard.
What does that tell us about how seriously GBV is being taken?
Do you think enough is being done to protect women in South Africa? 👇
#HeCares#WomensShutdown#GBVAwareness
GBV doesn’t only leave physical scars.
It can also cause depression, anxiety, fear, stress, and emotional pain long after the abuse ends.
Do you think society talks enough about the mental and health effects of GBV? #GBV#WomensHealth
@quietnox Absolutely. A child’s first environment becomes their first definition of love, conflict, confidence, and safety — and those patterns often continue into adulthood.
Many people say “what happens in a relationship should stay private.”
But when someone is being abused, does silence protect the relationship or protect the abuse?
At what point should people speak up or seek help? #GBV#HealthyRelationships
Many people grow up hearing that “real men must always be strong” and never show emotions.
But can hiding emotions for a long time affect someone’s behaviour and relationships?
Do you think society puts too much pressure on men emotionally? #GBV#HealthyMasculinity
Not all abuse is physical.
Insults, manipulation, controlling behaviour, and humiliation can also hurt someone emotionally.
Do you think emotional abuse happens in relationships today? How does it happen? #GBV
I was asking myself… a mother naturally bonds with a child through pregnancy and childbirth.
So how do fathers build strong emotional connections with their children?
Is it society that teaches men to be responsible fathers, or is it a personal choice? #GBV#HealthyMasculinity
A lot of boys are taught:
“don’t cry”
“be tough”
“control your woman”
Then later we wonder why some relationships become unhealthy or violent.
What messages about masculinity do you think need to change?
@quietnox Masculinity itself is not the problem. The issue is how society teaches boys to express it.
Boys are often taught to suppress emotions, while girls are taught different social expectations.

Nothing About Us Without Us: Community Leadership is the Foundation
Effective #HIV, #TB, and #Malaria responses depend on #communities owning the #data, #discussion, and #decisions.
At the #Rwanda#CSOs and #Communities’ Stakeholder Consultative Workshop on #iCLM Priority Setting, convened by @RwandaNGOForum to shape the NSP 2027–2030 and the @GlobalFund GC8 Funding Request, this principle was evident.
We were inspired by @AndrewGasoziNtw, Senior Coordinator at the @UNAIDSRwanda Country Office, whose words capture the essence of the conversation:
"Integrated community-led monitoring (#iCLM) for #HIV, #TB, and #Malaria belongs to the #communities. Their ownership and leadership make #iCLM meaningful. We engage #communities! Priorities for #HIV, #TB, and #Malaria NSP 2027-2030 and the GC8 funding request reflect what matters to them."
Why is this important?
Because programs only work when #communities shape them, monitor them, and speak for themselves. The principle is non-negotiable: Everything for #communities, without #communities, works against them.
We must move people from the periphery to the high-level decision-making table. #Communities should participate not as beneficiaries, but as leaders and equal contributors.
✅Ownership: #iCLM isn’t just a data collection tool; it is the #community’s voice. #Community-owned data reflects reality, not assumptions.
✅Leadership: When those at risk, living with, or affected by the diseases, and fighting them daily, set priorities, resources are allocated effectively and equitably.
Accountability: We cannot design solutions in a vacuum and expect them to work on the ground. True accountability means #communities drive the response.
The upcoming #HIV, #TB, and #Malaria NSP 2027–2030 and the @GlobalFund GC8 funding request must continue to boldly reflect #communities’ priorities. #Community voice must drive better policies, stronger accountability, and responses that save lives.
Civil society leaders and #communities will continue to shape these critical documents through consultative and development workshops, sharing #community priorities, and providing feedback on drafts. This active involvement ensures that both #HIV, #TB, and #Malaria NSP2027-2030 and @GlobalFund GC8 funding request are grounded in real experience and drive change where it matters most.
Thank you to @AndrewGasoziNtw, @RwandaNGOForum, and all civil society organizations and #community leaders for driving this agenda forward. The path to ending #HIV, #TB, and #Malaria is paved with #community-led evidence. #LetCommunityLeadRw #PeopleCenteredResponse #HealthIntegration #CommunityData #HealthForAll
