Take the stairs to boost your VO2max?
Inactive adults who did 3 bouts of “all-out” stair climbing (6 flights in ~30-seconds) on 3 days per week improved their VO2max by 7% after 6 weeks.
Simple (and not easy), but effective.

A review on the squat 🏋🏻and hypertrophy💪🏻:

On the left, a single nonreplicable study with sensational findings. On the right, a well-done meta showing time of day doesn't matter.
Note the colossal difference in Altmetric Score (online attention).

Its odd but I sometimes get accused of challenging manual therapy and not exercise. Which is really ironic if you search my Twitter - so here is a great take on exercise and persistent pain

Endothelial dysfunction & aortic stiffness increase with age & strongly contribute to CVD.
Resistance training is great for addressing endothelial function.
Aerobic exercise is great for addressing endothelial function & aortic stiffness.
There’s no substitute for cardio.
Static stretching causes a temporary reduction in strength. Importantly, an element of this reduction appears to be centrally-mediated, suggesting that it likely affects other muscle groups as well as the stretched one.
Meta-analysis: Strength training 🏋🏻has antidepressant effects in people with depression or depressive symptoms 🧠 and (i) weekly training frequency, (ii) number of sets and (iii) reps may influence the antidepressant effects: https://t.co/s5ko38afIL
This systematic review and meta-analysis finds that creatine supplementation is likely to be concomitant with improvements in sit-to-stand performance, muscle function and lean tissue mass in individuals at risk of functional disability.
Healthy weight loss maintenance with exercise, GLP-1 receptor agonist, or both combined followed by one year without treatment https://t.co/tDqgdb5Xeh
The addition of supervised exercise to obesity pharmacotherapy seems to improve healthy weight maintenance after treatment termination compared with treatment termination of obesity pharmacotherapy alone.
Evidence continues to mount that while you need to train w/a high intensity of effort to optimize hypertrophy, you don't necessarily need to train to failure. New study shows similar gainz training to failure vs a 2 RIR. Important practical implications💪

Meet Larry 🤝
This 84 year old gentleman came to see me a few weeks ago due to hip pain.
His opening line was, “I’m only here because my daughters made me come, I think I’m fine!”
Turned out he was right, Larry’s hip was in good shape and when I suggested some balance and resistance training would complement his daily walking he thought it was a great idea.
This is a look into his first programme.
We’re going to meet in four weeks time to see how everything goes…and I’d anticipate we will be making the programme more challenging 👊
Resistance training is medicine🏋🏻:
-⬆️1.4kg increased lean mass💪🏻
-⬆️7% increased resting metabolic rate
-⬇️1.8kg reduced fat mass
-⬆️ 1-3% increase in bone mineral density🦴
and improved quality of life, walking speed, functional independence, cognition
