When you try something new, you inevitably attract haters. So not being deterred by haters is one of the skills you need in order to make change happen. Like most skills, it's a combination of natural ability and practice. But don't expect not to have to practice.
Told 11 yo about the existence of finance. I'd willingly answered all his questions about drugs and organized crime and sexual practices, but I found myself reluctant to tell him there were people who made money just from betting whether prices of things would go up or down.
It's hard to overstate how valuable it is for super talented people to want to come live in the US, and for them (and their children) to start companies here.
It should be the easiest policy decision imaginable to let them. Not doing so will have dire consequences.
The weird thing about Silicon Valley is the frequency at which you run into someone and think, “Wow that person is really, really smart” and a few years later they’re insanely rich.
A lot of ambitious people spend the early part of their lives in credential-seeking mode. But you'll hit a wall if you're still in this mode when you start a startup. Making what users want is a completely different m.o. from charming authorities and doing well on tests.
