After 14 years and thank you to so many people, but especially @macdonj@PKUFamily@vickyford Cait has Kuvan in her hands! Ready right start taking today. Very emotional and grateful
Why are we pretending that assessing outcomes of disadvantaged students compared to national averages of non disadvantaged won't impact schools with greater numbers of disadvantaged students unfairly? Of course it will! Yet there it is in black and white in the Ofsted toolkit.
@ShakinthatChalk Graziano et al 2020 - fidget toys had a negative affect on attention to instruction in young children with ADHD.
Driesen et al 2023 - fidget toys had a negative effect on maths performance for both ADHD and non-ADHD children.
Schools that are oversubscribed can select 'by stealth' by having expectations of conduct so high that disadvantaged students are less likely to cope and avoid PEX. Schools that struggle to fill cohorts can't. They have to take all, inc. managed moves. It's really that simple.
Some very interesting early results with the new drug Repinatrabit (JNT 517) in 4 adolescents with PKU showing that blood Phe decreased from 1000 to target ranges after 4 weeks of an open label study
Well that's one way to keep cool! 🥶
Absolutely incredible from Jordan Adams who is running the London Marathon with a fridge on his back, raising money in the fight to cure dementia ❤️
Sabastian Sawe has broken the men's marathon world record in London.
The Kenyan is the first person ever to run a marathon in under two hours in race conditions — his time was 1:59:30.
Yomif Kejelcha of Ethiopia, making his marathon debut, achieved the feat 11 seconds later — 1:59:41.
Fittingly, like London buses, you wait an eternity for one, then two come along at once 🚌
Remarkable.
@RachelOrr@MrTeece_ I think you make a really good point about learning how not to lead. At the time you might be really unhappy, but in the future you know exactly who you do want to be like!
"Requires Attention."
Schools with high FSM are far more likely to sit under that label in the new Ofsted framework, especially the Achievement section.
Daft thing is, it already has our attention. It always will.
Poverty requires attention. Hunger requires attention. Trauma requires attention.
A judgement that ignores all of that - and then penalises the people giving their lives to the cause?
That requires attention too.
@sciantificnew I totally agree. This is the current obsession. And this expectation, that if 6 children don’t understand, you have to immediately do something, which is not always as easy as it sounds, if you work in a school where you need to be constantly switched on for behaviour.
Heads in deprived areas warn that grades awarded by Ofsted for its new achievement category are ‘demoralising’ and fail to take their challenging circumstances into account

OFSTED ratings will never reflect:
Genuine morale of a staff
Ability of a staff
Actual Behaviour of students in school
Staff workload
Level of challenge in school
Human leadership
Pick your grades, the above may or may not connect at all. IMO.
