As communicated, this concludes our active involvement in the Fractal Protocol. We have now withdrawn our own token liquidity from DEXes, and look forward to supporting idOS to become the decentralized identity layer for the internet.

As part of the transition away from the Fractal Protocol, Fractal ID intends to withdraw its own liquidity from DEXes after the snapshot is taken.

Last year nearly crushed me and the Coinbase hack brought it all back. I had this post coming for a while now and it's a coincidence that it is more relevant than I had hoped for. Couple of points:

- the good: A better way to do KYC is possible
- the hack: Why the hack happened and why I stayed silent for too long
- the ugly: This industry is degen in the streets and centralized in the sheets

I hope this incident will serve as a wake-up call, like it did for us last year – we need to change.

In July 2024, we committed to deleting all user data from our live systems. That work is now well underway.

Close to 900k Fractal ID user records (77.5% of the entire user base) have now been permanently removed from our live systems, and we are working together with our clients to delete the rest in the next few months.

We are moving away from centralized data storage. No excuses. Just change.

After the recent data breach, we're starting to make radical changes. We're going dataless within a year, meaning that personal data will no longer be held in centralized storage. Deleting user data to the fullest extent possible will enable a degree of self-sovereignty for users that has not yet been possible. This will be a major shift in how we handle identity in web3 and will hopefully usher in a new era of digital security and privacy.

It is my conviction that this is the best way to protect users while upholding regulatory responsibilities. Ultimately, it is my hope that this is the beginning of a better and safer era for identity in the digital world. Read my full letter on the path forward.

On Sunday, July 14th, 2024 the Fractal ID user base was accessed by a malicious external party that gained unauthorized access to an operator’s account. Our team acted quickly, but roughly 0.5% of our user base was affected.

Our first line of responsibilities lies with the users which is why these were the first to be contacted via email if their data was impacted. We then proceeded to contact our impacted clients and now the broader public.

A year pinned down in a day.

Yesterday the first #OpenFi conference concluded and we announced our consortium round led by @fabric_vc including eight ecosystems like @circle, @gnosischain, @Ripple, @NEARProtocol.

It was a year of hard work and lots of uncertainty. I am lucky to have @LluisBardet and @juliosantos on this journey. They are as sturdy as they come and the last year was a master class in resilience.

A quick conclusion before heading out to our #InfraGardens event at @EthCC and meeting some friends:

- I haven't been as excited about crypto in a long time and it's because of OpenFi. It has always been about bringing Open Source into Finance and it's finally happening

- It's 2024 and we don't have decentralized identity. That's unacceptable. The consortium round is the bat signal to change that and I couldn't be happier about the fantastic partners that trusted us

I have a lot of 'thank yous' to say. I am glad we made it through last year and I am excited for what's to come.
