There is *a lot* of software that hasn’t been built across hundreds of industries because our best paid designers and engineers were occupied with building social networks and ad networks.
"The best minds of my generation are thinking about how to make people click ads." — Jeff Hammerbacher
Meanwhile, huge parts of the physical economy were left running on spreadsheets, email, paper forms, ancient desktop software and enterprise systems installed sometime around 1999. They still use it today.
Construction. Manufacturing. Logistics. Agriculture. Waste management. Energy. Shipping. Maintenance. Laboratories. Local government. Field services. Industrial equipment. Healthcare administration. The list is endless.
A lot of these places were simply too small, too "unsexy" or too expensive to serve with traditional software economics, especially after engineers became one of the best paid career choice.
But small teams can now build specialized tools for markets that previously couldn’t justify the best of the best engineering talent.
And even further, lets not forget about all the terrible enterprise software out there owned by massive corporations who locked in clients since the late 90s and didn't change a single thing since then. All these companies are completely vendor locked due to switching cost, but that switching cost is slowly disappearing.
Maybe I am too optimistic here, but there are entire industries still waiting for their first piece of software that is truly designed for the people using it.
The opportunities right now are endless.
I know too many high IQ people that never take action that stretch their comfort zones and succumb to lame rationalisations
Real intelligence in that sense is a mix of applied IQ, low-enough ego that doesn't self sabotage, tenacity and being humble enough to course correct as needed
intelligence is the ability to solve problems
if you’re so smart, why are you constantly complaining about problems with obvious solutions?
turns out you’re fucking stupid

The very definition of "You can just do things"
This new creatine study is insane.
People who never trained took 10g of creatine a day and gained more lean tissue (2.43 lbs) than people who were lifting 3x a week with no creatine (0.31 lbs).
Here's the breakdown: (1/18)
Relationship gaps that matter way more than people admit:
- gym gap (5x a week vs. never)
- drinking gap (weekend drinker vs. basically sober)
- going out gap (always wants plans vs. loves staying in)
- travel gap (always planning a trip vs. 1-2 a year is plenty)
- money gap (spender vs. saver)
- living gap (city forever vs. suburbs ASAP)
- ambition gap (career obsessed vs. work is just work)
- texting gap (talk all day vs. “sorry just seeing this”)
- social gap (huge friend group vs. 2 close friends)
- sleep schedule gap HUGE one (10pm bedtime vs. 2am)
- fitness/food gap (tracks everything vs. orders whatever)
@Kekius_Sage You can do it broke and homeless with the internet and using AI as a great multiplier to your understanding, assuming you have access to food and sleep and safety. Money is largely just a scapegoat beyond bare necessities.

Keeping negative people in your life might literally age you.
Each additional person who regularly made life difficult was linked to:
1) 1.5% faster biological aging
2) ~9 months older biological age
If you are in London, do not underestimate the significance of this.
@harveyhodd and the @Rivanindustries team have just opened a 60,000 sq ft manufacturing site in LONDON.
Three weeks ago @AFitzgerald1992 announced that @IsembardGroup was opening up a 160,000 sq ft site, also in London (the largest factory to open in central London since the Second World War)
Isembard is producing components for aerospace, defence and robotics, while Rivan is producing synthetic natural gas.
Both are doing so from London.
When we talk about reindustrialising the UK, this it IT.
My retirement plan
1. Lifting 3x a week
2. Sprinting 1x per week
3. Zone 2 for 150 min a week
4. Mobility and plyometrics for 7 min before my workouts
The moment you stop lifting, running, stretching, jumping, and sprinting is the moment you become older.
“You need to go to the gym to get jacked” is a lie.
Looking lean is mostly diet. We already have muscles, just hidden by layers of fat.
Of course you need to grow muscles to look jacked, but you don’t need to bench 100kg. Your body weight is already weight. Calisthenics will make you jacked, at home, for free, without going to the gym with a PT.
And you need some form of cardio. Walking is great. Running, cycling, swimming are even better. It doesn’t have to be intense and, like calisthenics, it’s mostly free.
My fitness journey started with calisthenics at home, and surfing for cardio. I upgraded with 15kg dumbbells, and only started going to the gym last year.
Start with what’s convenient. Make it a habit. Upgrade from there.
"It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends on his not understanding it" — Upton Sinclair
I think this quote explains a lot of the coping that's going on, but I also think it's wrong! The failure to understand is what'll erase the paycheck.
We created gyms because modern day work no longer required physical activity. Without exercise, our muscles atrophy.
I predict we’ll need gyms for our brains too, once AI starts doing our knowledge work.
If you’re stuck in your own head, exercise may be one of the fastest ways out.
In people with depression, moderate exercise started reducing rumination within just 10 minutes.
EEG patterns also shifted from rumination toward distraction.
