Building in Spain so science fiction. I’ve literally proactively talked to people to offer jobs that tell me that they’d rather take the government subsidies.
Why is no one talking about how Peter Steinberger is yet another EU entrepreneur that the EU failed to retain or back ? Astonishing how Europeans are great at educating people and then fail to back entrepreneurship that could generate wealth
The $100B Shock: OpenAI vs. Europe
OpenAI is finalizing a funding round exceeding $100 billion, likely the largest private raise in history. In 2025, the entire European venture capital ecosystem raised less than that across all sectors combined (estimates: $58–85 billion).
One American AI company.
More capital than a continent.
Backers reportedly include Amazon (up to ~$50B), SoftBank (~$30B), Nvidia (~$30B), plus Microsoft and others. OpenAI's valuation now exceeds $850 billion.
This is not a regulatory anecdote. It's a capital reality.
Yes, Europe has the DMA and DSA. The DMA forces "gatekeepers" to open platforms and avoid self-preferencing. The DSA imposes heavy compliance obligations around moderation, transparency, and systemic risk. The stated goal is fairness and consumer protection.
But regulation is only half the story.
The deeper problem is structural: Europe has capital—but not risk capital.
European households save far more than Americans. In Germany, savings rates hover around 18–20% of disposable income. In the U.S., it's typically 4–7%.
So where does European capital go?
Bank deposits.
Low-yield bonds.
Real estate.
Safe. Predictable. Defensive.
In the U.S., capital flows into venture funds, growth equity, and public markets at scale. Americans are culturally and institutionally willing to fund asymmetric upside. That's how you finance moonshots.
Europe accumulates wealth.
America deploys it.
As a founder, the difference is dramatic. In Europe, raising serious growth capital is a grind. In the U.S., if your ambition matches the scale of the opportunity, capital appears. Ambitious founders follow liquidity.
And when Europe does produce world-class companies, the environment doesn't exactly nurture them.
In December 2025, the U.S. Trade Representative named firms such as Spotify, SAP, Siemens, Amadeus, and Mistral AI as potential retaliation targets over EU actions seen as discriminatory toward U.S. tech.
Mistral—Europe's closest AI contender to OpenAI, ends up caught in geopolitical crossfire.
So Europe underfunds its champions.
Then weaponizes the survivors in trade disputes.
Capital flows where it's welcomed, protected, and rewarded.
The $100B OpenAI round isn't just a funding story. It's a mirror.
One system scales ambition.
The other manages decline.
We just raised a $20M seed round to build the largest bank in the world.
Kontigo crossed $30M in annual revenue, $1B in payment volume, and 1M users in under 12 months, with a team of six engineers and one designer.
We are the fastest-growing stablecoin neobank in the world.
Any individual or business on earth can:
- Earn 10% yield on their digital dollars.
- Get a stablecoin card with bitcoin cashback.
- Activate a USDT credit line.
- Invest in tokenized U.S. stocks.
- Open an international account for free.
This is a real-world use case of crypto. No casinos, no jargon, just normal people who don’t even know what USDC or USDT is.
We’re, once and for all, democratizing access to basic finance and giving 4.8 billion people the ability to hold a stable currency (USDC) alongside a wealth creator (BTC).
The equation is simple: they invest in BTC, they hold USDC, and they spend in local stablecoins. More than a thousand businesses and a million users are already doing this.
They connect their local bank, card, or payment method and start moving funds globally, instantly, and without limits.
No matter the corridor. U.S. ↔ LatAm, LatAm ↔ Asia, Asia ↔ Europe, U.S. ↔ Africa, Europe ↔ LatAm. We’ve them all.
Just imagine how much faster Revolut would’ve grown if they didn’t have to get individual banking licenses in each of the 50 countries they’ve launched in. That’s @kontigo_app
You simply can’t outcompete the fact that our backend, database, and infrastructure run on the freaking blockchain: 24/7, at a fraction of the cost, open, permissionless.
It’s a whole new game, different incentives, and a new technological paradigm.
