I looked at 13,841 sponsorship prices recorded in @getsponsy over the last year.
Here’s what newsletter sponsorship pricing looked like:
1 – 25k subscribers = $400 typical · $900 higher end · $2,300 top end
25 – 50k subscribers = $300 typical · $1,000 higher end · $1,500 top end
50 – 100k subscribers = $500 typical · $800 higher end · $2,100 top end
100 – 250k subscribers = $600 typical · $1,100 higher end · $1,700 top end
250k+ subscribers = $5,000 typical · $7,100 higher end · $9,600 top end
Typical = the middle price. Higher end = roughly the top quarter. Top end = roughly the top 10%.
Based on priced sponsorship slots from 100+ newsletters over the last 12 months.
The surprising part: between 25k and 250k subscribers, the typical price barely changes.
List size alone is a poor guide to what a newsletter sponsorship costs. The audience and positioning matter a lot.
P.S. These are Sponsy’s internal numbers, so this isn’t a clean view of the whole market. We mostly work with premium media companies, which likely pushes these prices above what you’d see across all newsletters.
I've been drawing and building the new onboarding experience for @getsponsy for the last week and still on it.
I went already through 4 iterations. The goal is reduce the number of steps needed vs the reward of having the best showcase value for the user.
It is a tricky balance...
