Openness is the main IQ mediator for discovery, being willing to explore novel weird unprestigious paths, imagine bold silly hypotheses and test them. Bolder curious exploratory folks are going to cover more unknown ground which *might* turn up something novel. Genuine passion always helps (as opposed to being beaten into a field by kumon parents or financial/status desire) as it means you'll autonomously be exploring/playing w the ideas in your head and keeping up with literature.

The key was using nonadjacent axis swaps to route around the cubic bottleneck. The original manuscript already supported nonadjacent axis swaps. Using them directly reduces layout routing from O(d²) to O(d) swaps.
